The Race For 3rd.

Following hot on the heels of last seasons much lauded and brilliantly titled 'The Race For 4th' thread, comes the much anticipated and eagerly awaited sequel, 'The Race For 4th II' thread now renamed the much heralded 'The Race For 3rd'

The runners and riders are....

Man City
Chelsea
and Tottenham Hotspur.

4 points separates them. One of them have the pedigree, one has more money than god, and then there's us, the unknown quantity.
It's been a hell of a long time since we were in touching distance of 4th (1 year!) going into the new year, and now, here we are just 3 points from 4th.
So is there any reason why we won't have 3rd tied up by April? It's gonna be a blast!!

p.s. touch the sig!

Ok chap and chapette's, here's who we've all got on New Years day.....

West Brom v Man Utd

Man City v Blackpool

Spurs v Fulham

Birmingham v Arsenal

Sunday

Chelsea v Aston Villa

looking as impartially as is possible, you would have to say wins for Man U, Chelsea, Citeh and us, and a tough game for the goons where any result is possible.

True, birmingham have a good home record.

Yaeh, Blues are a team who just never know when they are beaten - just look at the late goals against both us and Man U to salvage a point.

Actually think West Brom could get a draw at home to Utd too, WBA need a result desperately and Utds away record not great.

I can see West Brom and Birmingham getting at least a point today. But City and Chelsea will win. I just hope we don't slip up. COYS

Actually, I'm expecting good results.

This is gonna be a tough game for us, but I think we will get the result...and possibly even pne that flatters us a little in terms of scoreline.

Birmingham, I believe, will get at least a point out of the Goons...and Big Eckies just the type to set his stall out to deliberately play to the Goons weaknesses, i.e. that football's okat as long as it's non-contact and no-one has the bad manners to harass them whilethey are playing their pretty football.

The Baggies, I really have a sneaky suspicion that this is gonna be the Mancs first league defeat (I could be hideously wrong, of course and end up with egg on me face).

Blackpool...don't they have, like, 5 away wins on the board, adn the type of exuberant team spirit to make an absolute mockery of Citeh's money grubbing whores. They really should have beat them at home, the ref basically gave CIteh the game and my bet is Holly and his boys will be really enraged by that, still, and so pretty fired up for this. The whores, meanwhile, will be so filled with arrogant complacency they won't even remeber the ref giving them the game and will just expect a 'little' team to roll over for them.

Chelsea, on paper, look favourites for this one...but Villa can't get any worse, surely:shrug:

So, top of the table for us it is, due to triple points for being so goddam sexyEek (SP is now being hustled into a 'restrainer' coat, and led to an inconspicuous white van, whilst Ma SP, and other close relatives weep gently over the sad demise of their wayward genius)

p.s. as I have made clear on several threads, we have a real outside chance at this and are most definitely in the title race ATM.

Maybe to you. But I don't see us challenging for the title just yet, there's no way this team is ready for a serious challenge. It's great fun to talk about and for me, there's no pressure on us, but this side isn't anything like strong enough to be serious contenders. A few wins against a falling Villa and Newcastle and everyone is creaming.

AWESOME!

IMO - our fortunes rest massively on how we perform on trips away up norf.

We have - Everton, Newcastle, Blackburn, Sunderland, Blackpool, Wolves, Wigan and Citeh and Liverpool.

IMO - we need to take an average of 2 points from this set of fixtures to be in the race.

Our home form has good recently and if we could snare 3 points against both the Scum and Manure when they visit, we'd be in the box seat.

Lots of ifs and maybes. But it's a cracking time to be a Spurs fan

Yeah, I guess tearing the European and World Club champions a new one, plus coming from 2 down away at one of our fellow title contenders is no reason to get excited.

Our squad is better than any other in the league. Sure we aren't brimming with world class players, we do have a couple, but overall ours is the most even.

A league is over 38 games. We don't have the consistency to get 85 pts.

To win the league we have to win more away games and consistently win them.

Firstly, have a look at Inter this year, it's not the same side. Not that I'm poo-pooing our achievement, there's every reason to be excited with our play, but for me, we ship too many goals and lose concentration to mount a serious title challenge. Our squad may be good, but we only use a few of those players, ask Niko about our 'squad'. We're not there with the Uniteds or even Arsenals yet. City are ahead of us now in my opinon.

We will struggle to finish 4th again this year, let alone mount a proper title challenge. I don't think this team has the experience required.

I believe the squads capable of winning the league, there's a visible team spirit amongst them. If not this season we'll be challenging for the foreseeable future but we do need to buy a world class striker and luck with injury's and form also cover at LB.

aim for the top and see where we finish, its the only way our players will get experience of a title race, by believing they are in one now.

if we had a 2-3 clean sheets in the next few weeks, the media would step up a notch, reporting how we've finally tightened up at the back just as we're in the hunt for a title.

Before our very eyes we're witnessing the rebirth of Tottenham Hotspurs previous assumptions have changed IMO winning games home and away with 10 men was previously unheard of, playing CL football and qualifying up was unheard of. Beating Arsenal away being 2-0 down to win 2-3 unheard of, this is a new Tottenham and we can do it.

Just say it quitely.

The one thing we have above all the other teams this season is the evident spirit in the squad. I haven't seen it since Mourinho's Chelsea. You can see it in everything we do. Everything that happens happens to the team. You can see it the way everyone joins in the celebrations when we score. You can see it when Gomes celebrates goals. You can see it because the subs even stand up and cheer when we score, even people who haven't played in weeks get excited. Our players work their bollocks off for one and other. They would die for one and other, they play for each other and for the team.

If the last two games, where we've been down to ten men don't show the spirit and the work ethic this squad has, then you only have to look at the come back against the filth, the second half against Young Boys away, the home performance against Inter, or any other game where we've been behind and recovered.

It's something special within the squad, and it's absolutely fantastic to see. The celebrations after the game against Villa last weekend brought a massive smile to my face, and I've now watched them three times just to get that feeling again. If you can find them, watch them. Luka, Rafa and Modders all together and then the whole team walking off high fiving, hugging, cheering. Fantastic.

We might not have the money that City have, the experience that the scum, United or Chelsea have, but we have the players and the spirit, and that's more than enough to seriously challenge.
