More sad for Hughton. Think he has done well at a few clubs now. Not sure what Brightons management want from him but i suspect they must have someone lined up.

Unbelievable. In 1956, Len Shackleton's biography contained a chapter that was titled "The Average Director's Knowledge of Football", and it consisted of a single blank page. Clearly nothing much has changed since then.

Funny but all too true.

Most of their fans commenting believe relegation next Season is inevitable

A real shame.

Thanks Chris, for stopping Arsenal and helping City towards the title.

What did Brighton expect? Chris is a solid manager, if he's backed with a proper squad and the right resources I've got no doubt whatsoever that he'll do bloody well in the Premier League. He might have to go to another Championship club with some clout and get them promoted if one comes available, but wherever he ends up will be lucky to have him.

Unless they've got someone pretty impressive lined up this could be an utterly stupid move.
Remember whenSouthamptom sacked Adkins, their best manager for decades and replaced him by a nobody called Pochettino? We all though they were crazy.

Best of luck to Christie but sometimes the board need to make tough choices to push on.

You can’t blame a board for being ambitious. Maybe they’d had expectations and he missed his target so they’ve decided it’s to e for something new

Three wins from last 23 games....only just stayed up so understandable really....
New season...new manager. I think he's done well though with the tools he had.

I wouldn't touch most of these merry-go-round mangers with a barge pole - would much prefer to promote a young manager or player - but Hughton is different. Excellent manager, certainly at Champ/lower PL level, and it's a travesty he hasn't been given a chance to build.

The people in charge at Brighton are ambitious, they've got the smart modern stadium and got to the Premier league and I don't think they are satisfied with just surviving they want to be at least at Watford or Southampton level which despite a scare this season are premier league fixtures.
On that basis whether or not this is the right decision I guess it shouldn't surprise us, I'm not convinced it is the right decision but it'll be interesting to see who they bring in.

I can respect that up to a point, I suppose it just comes down to whether or not they're really got someone lined up that they think is going to take them to the next level. The trouble is, for every Southampton sacking Adkins and hiring some Argentine bloke called Pochettino, there's 100 clubs who've bought in a fashionable new coach that's been a disaster and been replaced by Christmas by one of the usual suspects. I guess only time will tell. If they bring in "the next Pochettino" or something then by this time next year they'll look like geniuses I suppose.

Hughton did a good job but maybe the owners feel a fresh approach is needed after a piss poor 2nd half of the season. Yes it could backfire and has done plenty of times over the years but the owner has every right to do what he feels is right for the the club.

To do it so soon after the final match probably wasn't ideal but when is a good time really. You need to get moving straight away and get the new guy in so he can have a fair crack at it.

Im not going to be one of those who hope they get relegated now because they sacked a manager because I don't give a shit what they do.

Yup, you can’t blame them for wanting to try something else. They’ve been pretty awful this season, and as others have said were quite lucky not to go down.

It’s harsh on Chris Hughton, but I’d imagine he will get another job. I wonder if he’d go back to Newcastle if Benitez leaves.

Further to that, I wonder if Rafa would be tempted by Brighton.

I think he’s after a big move. He’d see BHA as a backward step for sure.

I think there's a lot of potential for Brighton. Modern stadium, new training complex, owner is a fan and has always made money available, decent size fanbase and a good catchment area beyond that, and it's a nice part of the world to live.

I don't blame them for being ambitious and thinking they can kick on. As I said in my previous post next season will still be one where the most important aim is to stay in the league, but I don't think Chris Hughton and his defensive tactics and ugly football (that, with two clubs now, the evidence seems to suggest aren't even effective/get results in the PL the longer it goes on) would be someone to take them forward. Championship expertise and clinging on to survival seems to be his ceiling, I'd be quite surprised if he got a 'bigger'/PL job on the back of this.
