However, it may be a brilliant ploy......:sneaky: to get uncle Joe to buy the Jaguars off him,
and do the whole lot at Tottenham, and we would end up with an NFL team,
That, makes a lot more sense, to me!

We have Chicken badge. Surely we'd buy a team from Kentucky as opposed to Jacksonville.

It only takes one statement from the FA that will kill this getting off the ground “Wembley Stadium- Not For Sale’

I think the sale will NOT go through.

Just read that Wembley Debt Before our rental was £120M and was evisaged that it would be paid off by 2021

So why would the FA sell a billion pound plus asset for 500m when it has no debt in 2 years.

It makes no sense especially as they know chelsea will be in there paying more rent and for 4 years.

The place is actually becoming a real money maker for the FA!

Furthermore if it was really going to be sold they surely would go to a tender as Abramovic would probably want to bid ...

and most public or Quasi public assets would normally go through that kind of process..

So personally i think it is a long way from happening all IMHO

Actually - fair point about Abramovich.

Tbh I actually think this is a positive rather than a negative. If jaguars did move to Wembley and it was a success surely that just opens the flood gates and more will follow. Also other teams would still come over which I presume we’d get all the games possibly 4. A franchise would only be 8 games anyway. Personally if jaguars were a success I could see there being a European division of say 4 teams. The fact the NFL entered into any sort of partnership obviously shows they want growth in Europe. Also don’t dismiss the 16 events that will be worth approx £50m .

Yep. I think people palming it off as "No we didn't just build it for the NFL, we'll have concerts there still" etc. are kidding themselves. There's no way in hell Levy spend all that extra money on NFL stuff just for 2 games a season plus a couple of Adele concerts. This is a massive blow not just in terms of having spent the money on stuff that won't pay for itself, it's also going to impact the potential exposure we'd have got on the American market and also on the valuation of any kind of naming rights deal.

There's no doubt in my mind Levy had smoke coming out of his ears morning

The NFL and Spurs have signed a deal that lasts until 2027. It would be unlike Levy to not include a provision where if the NFL backs out of the deal they have to pay Spurs compensation.

I'm sure they would but like I say, I don't think they'll cancel the deal, I just don't think it'll get renewed after it expires.

Even if they don't renew the deal we've still made a lot of money out of it. Plus the artificial pitch can be used for other sports, which is something that I'd imagined Levy has factored in. For example, the Rugby Football League is undergoing a massive expansion - they've set up teams in Toronto and Toulouse and consortiums in New York and Florida are bidding to join but they also hold annual events to promote the sport. Rugby league's Magic Weekend attracts a weekend attendance close to 70,000. Given that the RFL want a London franchise to get off the ground they'd be open to hosting the Magic Weekend at our new stadium.

Will we have made money from it? I'd be surprised if the amount the NFL have paid to rent the stadium for 20 games covers the cost of building all the NFL facilities. If anything we'll have lost money now.

I appreciate that the stadium will still be used for other events like concerts but that is never going to generate the kind of money we'd have gotten out of having an NFL franchise based there. Just the amount of exposure alone and the inevitably much higher naming rights deal would've been worth far more than concerts are etc.

As for rugby, first of all they already have Twickenham etc. so not sure why they'd want to play big games at the smaller capacity NWHL? The point still stands as well, that a Rugby League team isn't going to bring in anything like the amount of money an NFL team would've done.

You could be looking at potential new Tottenham Hotspur owners if this falls through, they are testing the waters with The FA & showing their intentions, don't forget Wembley doesnt have a training facility whereas Tottenham offer the full package.

They'd need to sell Fulham before they could even think about it though.

Got to say that the potential for the FA to have all those extra funds (less the amount needed to pay off their debt) for grassroots football has to be tempting.

But what's the FA without the stadium? And they could have just spent the money they used for building it on grassroots football in the first place.

You never know what the situation will be in 10 years. If we sell out all the games and put on a good experience then I don't see why they wouldn't want to renew it.

I don't know how much more money it cost to add the artificial pitch and other changes, but if the deal covers the costs then we're in a much better position than if we didn't add the NFL extras.

If Wembley is owned by an NFL owner then they'll almost certainly just use that, and if there's a permanent franchise based in London I don't think they'll still bother with the 2 a season special games.

If it still makes them money they will.

Yes and no. If they think it will hinder the development of the London-based franchise then they wouldn't. Ultimately making the London Whatevers a success is far more lucrative than a couple of exhibition games a season.

Still a lot of factors in play with this. I think the retractable pitch still gives us amazing flexibility to host all sorts of events to generate revenue, not just the NFL. Boxing is absolutely thriving in the UK, there is MMA, concerts, eSports. There’s a lot we can do.
