Whatever slant you put on it, this is bad news for us if it happens.

The end game was obviously trying to get a franchise, as the investment required for the NFL fit out doesn’t seem justified for just 2 games a year ( not to mention carving up the East stand with additional corporate almost certainly with the NFL in mind).

Yep. I think people palming it off as "No we didn't just build it for the NFL, we'll have concerts there still" etc. are kidding themselves. There's no way in hell Levy spend all that extra money on NFL stuff just for 2 games a season plus a couple of Adele concerts. This is a massive blow not just in terms of having spent the money on stuff that won't pay for itself, it's also going to impact the potential exposure we'd have got on the American market and also on the valuation of any kind of naming rights deal.

There's no doubt in my mind Levy had smoke coming out of his ears morning

Yep this is the wrong time for us trying to get a naming rights sponsor. Not only as we'd lose the promise of an nfl franchise but also wembley will want a sponsor.

Yep...too early for cluster feck of highest order knee jerk...but ffs, I'd feckin give up if we built a brand new stadium and still ended up a laughing stock.

As you say, timing to be admired...not.

Hopefully our purpose built stadium will far outshine outdated Wembley. We're already geared up with NFL in mind, and think we could offer a far better experience.

I mean let's not forget that our whole area is going to be regenerated, great transport links, and chance for NFL tourists to see some of London as opposed to out at Wembley.

On a closing note...For all those that bash Levy, I wouldn't wish for any other at the helm if this evolves into a battle.

Chelsea and fulham do. Chelseas ground is in fulham.

Yeah but Khan is a multi-billionaire businessman first and foremost, and grew up in Pakistan and the US. I suspect any sort of rivalry between Fulham and Chelsea fans is a completely insignificant factor to him if Chelsea make a fair offer to rent Wembley.

Are there not potential conflict of interest issues for an owner of a football club to also own the National stadium?

Was just answering the posters question. Khan i doubt gives two shits about the rivalry.

Got to say that the potential for the FA to have all those extra funds (less the amount needed to pay off their debt) for grassroots football has to be tempting.

I'm guessing he means for cup games. But i can't see there being a problem.

I get that, but I just don't really see what he would realistically do with that that would make it a conflict of interest.

1500 artificial pitches would be really helpful in winter. It's certainly tempting to cash in now and get that project started.

Yeah I'm sure every last penny will go towards grassroots football and youth development in England :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Such as..?

As the owner of Wembley stadium he will be a able to potentially have influence over the FA whilst also being the owner of Fulham. I know it’s a leap, but generally governing bodies or big organisations don’t like stuff like that, however remote.

Although actually as I type this I have a vague recollection of David Dein being involved with the FA whilst Arsenal’s chairman so maybe it isn’t a big deal.

I think the sale will NOT go through.

Just read that Wembley Debt Before our rental was £120M and was evisaged that it would be paid off by 2021

So why would the FA sell a billion pound plus asset for 500m when it has no debt in 2 years.

It makes no sense especially as they know chelsea will be in there paying more rent and for 4 years.

The place is actually becoming a real money maker for the FA!

Furthermore if it was really going to be sold they surely would go to a tender as Abramovic would probably want to bid ...

and most public or Quasi public assets would normally go through that kind of process..

So personally i think it is a long way from happening all IMHO

However, it may be a brilliant ploy......:sneaky: to get uncle Joe to buy the Jaguars off him,
and do the whole lot at Tottenham, and we would end up with an NFL team,
That, makes a lot more sense, to me!
