Off course. You're right. And luckily you still have Croatia and Belgium/France to conquer. And if you do that you deserve the title, and it will probably not be considered as a repeat if Greece 2004. If you don't, it's not anybodys fault. Its just a consquence of not having the best team and players in the world. Probably how both Sweden and Russia felt yesterday. And thats quite OK, as long as its not a bad penalty shot or some other typical english reason behind the defeat.. At least thats how I see it.

well Im American so we didnt even qualify. Im rooting for Tottenham at this point.

Obviously shes raising a good point, but its the sweeping generalisation that fucks me off.
'Dear football fans', like all football fans would consider something like this acceptable.
Its the similar to grouping in all Muslims in with terrorism, when the extreme majority don't sympathise, and would never have anything to do with it.

Personally, I am more affronted by the full stop after "Dear football fans". It's so obviously a comma. She has repeated the mistake after "Thanks" and added another completely unnecessary full stop at the end. This is a common problem with clinical types. No wonder the country is going to the dogs.

This talk of deserving/not deserving is such nonsense talk, you don't need to over analyse it, it's just fairly simple logic, you win football matches in a cup competition you advance to the next round.

Yes, but some teams get an easy way... Do you think England is capable of beating Croatia and then Belgium/France? France vs England in a world cup final in Russia is after all something to hope for! ?

The frustrating thing is it's most likely not even England "fans" doing the damage. You can guarantee the slapper in the second tweet you posted had never watched a football match in her life before the World Cup and probably couldn't name more than 2 players in the England squad.

Probably just had one WKD blue too many and thought it would make her look cool.

Yep. Croatia are pretty strong in midfield, but, overall, are an old team, and I reckon they would struggle with our pace and movement up front. I'm hoping for England vs Belgium, not least as it will mean 5-6 Spurs players on show, with another 3-4 on the benches. Tony Adams can go kiss my big fat one if that materialises.

Yeah they've had a favourable route so far but its the World Cup so you still need to turn up, England had a supposed 'easy' match against Iceland in the Euro's and look what happened.

You can only beat what's in front of you.

Yes, but one thing did she understand about football and England: Celebrate good when you can celebrate and have the chance. On wednesday it might be over. ?

Yes, but I think France-England is one of the greatest finals I can think about. Especially when the final takes place in Moscow, and both teams have plenty of players from old colonies on the pitch. That's the historical dimension of it. But after all, Belgium seems like a stronger team than France, but hard to tell..

Russia vs Germany in Kalingrad would have been even more epic in that context. Imagine the gags you could weave into commentary. The Germans were blitzing this early doors, but have dug in now and are facing waves of Russian counter-attacks. Etc

Thing is these days everything out of the ordinary is caught on social media, there have been a couple if instances of peoole being idiots, however there were 50 million who weren't, so let not go over board

Some police forces recorded their highest ever number of 999 calls in a 24 hour period. It's more than a couple of idiots. There's a big problem with "lad" culture in this country fuelled by things like that casual twitter account and all the braindead fuckwits that follow it. The Japanese tidy stadiums, we get drunk and cause chaos. It's no wonder we have a shit reputation abroad.

I'm a traditionalist on these things. I think we should wait until England have won the cup before picking the campaign apart for being insufficiently awesome/scoring the wrong kind of goals/not volunteering to go on the other side of the draw/withdrawing from the tournament due to having too much luck.

Basically if you want England to win the World Cup, this is how England win the World Cup. A favoirable draw, a decent coach who knows his first XI and plays a system the players are comfortable with, a team playing without massive expectations and hype, meticulous preparation, a bit of luck and rock solid self-belief and focus.

Yes, but I havn't heard about any fighting or hooliganism in Russia during this world cup..!? Didn't Russia warn the english about strict police and heavy consequences in front of the world cup too? Anyway, you must be really disturbed and stupid if you go to Russia and throw bottles and start fights. Especially in these days if you're english..

Disagree. There shouldn’t be a full stop or a comma, imo.

Dear football fans

Yadda, yadda, yadda...

I've only watched one England game in a public place this WC and I fucking hated it compared to watching it at home or at friends.

Why are the English intent on ruining everyone else's experiences in pubs etc?
I have to say we watched it at Chilfest in a big screen without commentary and it was great!
Think the general consensus was it was great but that was because of the slightly older audience...
