Young, Maguire and Henderson starting apparently. I have to say I have no idea how Young is preferred to Rose, and I think Cahill did well against Nigeria. I can understand Henderson over Dier.

Young had a better season than Rose. Plus, given the heat and his lack of game time last season Rose could be a fitness risk. No point in risking Rose now when there are much tougher games down the road.

I get that but for purely tactical reasons have a right-footer as a LB just seems counter-productive

If Kane gets off to a good start I wouldn’t rule him out for golden boot.

Big IF ...

As a neutral.... think england has a great chance. Young squad, young manager. Really no huge egos.

Gonna be interesting to see how they go.

Nice to see the England squad enjoying themselves. Very impressed with Southgate off the pitch. I hope he gets his tactics right on it as I don't want to see him crucified by the press at the end of the tournament.

The current squad seems a lot more relaxed than their predecessors, probably the most relaxed squad since the '98 lot tried to shoehorn song titles into interviews.

Hated his appointment but he's grown on me. He's done with this squad what I (and I'm guessing a fair few others) wanted Roy to do at Euro 2016 and given the youths a chance to show what they can do.

Didn’t care at all up until I got home and sat down.

Actually excited now. Loved the BBC intro.

For the first time since God knows when I'm excited about an England team. If they play with a fearlessness that allows the likes of Kane, Alli, & Sterling to replicate their club form then they should make the QFs at least.

England is going for it but i think Henderson as your dm is asking for trouble on counter attacks. Interesting decision from Southgate to include him as your only true cm in the xi.

What an absolutely bullshit decision.

So now apparently you can run into opponents and throw yourself on the floor now.

Kane won me a massive £6.80 on the pokerstars sport betting section as first scorer and I also had him to score two or more.

I'm going to bet that £6.80 on him scoring a hattrick against Panama. Is this a solid betting strategy?

I certainly wouldn’t bet against him (y)

Kept telling my mate to have faith, the second goal was coming. I admit he left it a bit later than I'd thought but it was never really in doubt.

If he goes on one of his extra hot streaks we could actually win the World Cup :woot:
