Thought it was time to make a thread to discuss all things England before, during and after the World Cup. I'm an England fanatic so I can't wait to the World Cup. I'm also going to the Peru friendly which will be very interesting.

I think we'll get out of the group and to be honest, I think our squad is very underated- we have so much pace and attacking threat, albeit we do seem to lack defensive strength.

A reminder of the Squad:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Manchester United).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Attackers: Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).

Standby: John Ruddy (Norwich City), Jon Flanagan (Liverpool), John Stones (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Andy Carroll (West Ham United), Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC).

My starting XI would be:

Hart
Johnson- Cahill- Jagielka- Baines
Gerrard
Henderson/Wilshere- Lallana
Sturridge- Rooney- Sterling

COME ON ENGLAND

Come on England indeed.

I'm disappointed that there are no Spurs players in the team too but all this "England are shit so I'm not suporting them anymore" makes you no better than the average glory hunter.

Imagine if Wales, Scotland or any other home nation got there, the support they would get. Yes, we might not win the thing, yes, we might not make it past the groups, but lets go out there and show those other countries why England is the home of football.

We have some really exciting Talents out there (Rooney, Barkley, Ox, Lallana, Sterling, Shaw) who I can't wait to see mix it with the best.

This WC is all about experience anyway given the humidity they will face.

I don't see why not. Good chance of seeing that IMO. Actually I expect Wilshere for Barkley but the rest is likely.

Not a bad team but don't think Barkley is suited to that role, which is the problem with the squad- the paucity or absence of good defensive midfielders. I guess Wilshite is the best option.

I'm looking forward to seeing how we do now but I can see us struggling if we can't retain possession . I think Hodgson has picked a very good squad and he seems to be preparing the team well but the heat could be a killer.

Same team I'd go with.
No chance Roy can ignore that line up if 2 members of Spurs community agree on it.

It's PAINFULLY obvious this will indeed be the year when England again win the World Cup. Why? We have no Spurs players in the England squad. :) Rival fans will always gloat that the World Cup winning side never had a Spurs player in it. It's written in the Spurs fabled stars. If there's a chance we could end up looking the butt of something...the gravitational pull of' football physics' seems to jerk violently in our direction!

It really wouldn't surprise me at all.

I don't think it's about England being shit. It's about the shocking attitude shown by many of our players, and the fact that half of them seem like vile people that do little to inspire much public support or good will.

I might be persuaded to show some interest in the England team if they can play with some genuine passion, regardless of whether they're successful or not. Until then I don't feel bad about not wanting to blindly cheer on the likes of Wilshere, Rooney, and Lampard as they stroll around looking inconvenienced.

I agree to a point although we have discussed at length the effect a demanding and occasionally poisonous crowd can have on a team. Also the pressure the "golden generation" played under was immense. Sometimes it's like players are terrified of making a mistake.

I just think everyone should get behind them and hopefully we will have some good performances to enjoy.

BBC3 just had the worst England team.

Including Vinny Jones, the one time captain.

Of Wales.

Going to the England vs Peru match tomorrow- can't wait. Peru are seemingly missing Pizarro and Farfan so England should win quite comfortably but obviously we won't...

Despite being Welsh, I'll be cheering England on.

Can't see you guys getting past the group stage but fingers crossed.

Think Suarez may be out though. Big kick in the dick to Uruguay if he is which would help England

It would be a great help but I can't help but feel that England will struggle in the heat.

People are almost ruling out Costa Rica already but I can see them picking up a couple of draws.

England NEED to beat Italy to stand a chance, as IMO only one European team will make it out of the group - if that.
