Poch building a team for the next five years that will win the league is I guess the desired plan

It would fit in with what he's said about moving on to the next chapter; Plenty of opportunity here to build a generational side. Kane, Dele, Son, Lucas, Winks, Sanchez and others all quite young enough to be playing for us for 5+ years and still be/just be at their peaks.

You are correct, it expires with 2 weeks of the window to run, so that we have more than enough time to sign a replacement if required (also, presumably Toby would have absolutely no reason to be a complete **** so would have informed us he was going to leave a bit earlier than that anyway).
I believe triggering the clause is one thing, but based on what I read on here, a lot do not take into account that Toby must also want to go to said club. Its not a given that he will leave. The clause is just condition that Spurs have to inform Toby of any offers 25 mill and over, but.... he has the right to say no.

I hope this is the case; it would certainly make good sense.

In reality the only way we’re catching Liverpool and City next season is by having a net spend of £250m+ IMO.

And even then, of course, there are no guarantees.

I’d much rather we spend the money wisely investing in young players such as Clarke, the Sess brothers etc and build a team which can challenge for years to come. Very encouraging that this is exactly what all ITK seems to be alluding to.

Even Ndombele, despite his calibre, is only 22.

Exactly, been saying the same thing myself for a long time. As others have mentioned, he's going to struggle to go to a club that's a step up from us, due to there not being that many and the ones that are probably have the ability to sign anyone they choose so don't necessarily need a cheap older defender. It does seem all about one big final pay day, which is fair enough if he goes about it the right way (which he has seemingly done the past year or so).

As with ALL transfers the interested club gets in touch with the agent first (sometimes the present club will be asked for permission, most times not). Once those parties have agreed, then the current club is involved and talks about a fee commence. If there's a clause like Toby's, that second part is just a formal "here are your €XXm, thanks".

Deals are not reached over a players head. Haven't been for ages. Can't even loan a youth player without his consent these days.

He wont be the only one....
This is exciting.

With the players we are being linked to/close to signing it's pretty clear that Poch and the club are targeting players under 23 who have huge potential so that in the next 5 years or so we are incredibly strong. Add the maturer players such as Kane, Alli, Jan, Hugo to that and we could achieve a lot.

dragon1: Lamela is not for sale , three right backs all are though , foyth will be one of the right backs next season and we are in market for another , Jansen willl not be leaving for 5 million ! He’s an international who scored bundles in Holland no team wil, get much change from 20 for him

Thanks for sharing Dov. I’d be surprised if that information was accurate tbh. Seems to go against logic/ common sense, but we’ll see.

One year left on Vinny's deal, I'd take 5mill all day everyday. Doubt there'd be many clubs wiling to pay over 15mill for him.

Interesting about Foyth. Hope the rest is not true as we will probably end up stuck with Janssen until his contract runs out and I think we should be moving Lamela on if possible.

Personally can't have that news about Foyth, think he's all over a centre back tbh and would be very surprised if Poch chose to make him his preferred right back. Also agree with others that the Jansen fee seems ridiculously high given he's only got a year left and everyone knows we want rid.

I love Lamela, so I hope that part is true. I can definitely see him getting sold though, especially if we get a good price for him. I don’t think that needs to be forced though, because he is a good squad player and fits in Poch’s system.

And while Foyth is obviously a CB in the long run, I could definitely see him as an option at RB next year as he looked alright when he played there once or twice last season. Definitely think we should sell Trips this summer, but we might not necessarily need to bring in a replacement if we have Aurier, KWP and potentially Foyth as options there.

Puzzled by this. I love Lamela's attitude and tenacity but with his injury record he can't be relied on. There was some info the other day saying Poch likes a small squad. We therefore can't afford to have players that are intermittently available.
