I completely get this which is why I didn’t throw in why don’t we just do what city do. Generally I’m on board with our transfer tactics. Im just pointing out to another poster that it can be quite valuable getting a player in early.
If they are good enough and available early at the price we want to pay...

I’m pretty cool about when we buy players also.

The only problem that waiting until the end of the window is making moves for people late has no time for the selling club to find replacements.

Our window shuts before the rest of europe this season.

That must surely swing both ways for the big stars - their agents know the EPL is the Holy Grail for transfers fees and wages and will have to take into account the window slamming shut or wait until January ?

Just my take.

If you look at the last three seasons, if we took more points on non-Top 6 teams we would have two titles right now. Many of those games were lost or drawn due to lack of tactical flexibility or depth in the face of injuries. Our starting XI can take down Real Madrid. That's not our problem. Our problem is when we hit a slump and need to grind out points against the mediocre teams and deal with the stretches where a key player is injured.

As such, I think depth is the most impactful way to spend money on the squad right now. As much as I would love a huge marquee signing, that just means we're one ACL away from throwing our whole summer transfer window in the bin.
How many marquee signings are going to be happy sitting on the bench week week out ?

Think last day of the transfer window is going to be hectic this season. As you say once the prem window shuts then prices and wage demands will fall.

You think he would prefer quantity over quality? If so then I would start to worry.

I will not pass judgment until the window closes, but i can't imagine Poch will be happy if we end up with fillers.

no what I'm saying if he has told Levy to sell 5 players, and we need 4 to replace them, and the hope was to get our targets, which would then cost 150m outlay, then buying 2 quality players instead of the 4 because the 2 quality take up all our budget due to being increased, means we are then 2 players light. if those 2 players picked up an early injury we would then have a stretched squad

Where would we need 4 players though? Toby, Llorente and Dembele might move on and would need replacing (and hopefully Sissoko), but in players like Foyth, Walker-Peters, Moura, Lamela and others in the pipeline like Oakley-Booth, we have quite a lot of depth/options. Grealish, IMO, would add a lot of depth on his own and cover a couple of key areas.

we don't know for sure yet what's happening with Danny Rose, if he stays then we only need 3, also depending on if Moura replaces Son at the moment

Home grown list restrictions impact the idea of getting fewer, but better quality players.

As I recall, we need to cut our 'imports' by one?

So if we sell 3 players (eg sissoko, llorente and dembele) then we can only buy two imports. Should we only get one (plus grealish?) If so which area do we risk being short, cm or striker?

Fair enough, but I'd like us to put more faith in some of our youth and spend the 150m on 2 top notch players (not Zaha ?). itk have also stated we have the money to spend before player sales, if we sell 4-5 we should be reinvesting that back into the squad

Anyone want a can of Toby worms reopened?

JJ on Twitter responding to someone saying Levy wants to get rid of Toby.
JJ’s response: “No he doesn’t ?”

I have no idea of how to link it here to show the conversation but it does seem to suggest all may not be lost with Toby.

From the rules thread....

"NO TWITTER from ANYONE under any circumstances in the Daily ITK Discussion Thread. If you do spam the thread you'll lose your access."

Pop it in the Player thread unless A&C says otherwise.

Breaking the club transfer record seems as a must in todays market. Do we want anyone that is close to be a starter it will be a transfer record.

Not necessarily. There are so many factors that influence a players value such as contract length, age, league they play in, transfer clause's, etc that it's impossible to say that for certain. I'm sure we could sign a first team central midfielder for less than we paid for Sanchez.
