I can’t think of a better REALISTIC target than Zaha, he has a bit of a raw Bale about him for me, he works hard to boot.

I think he could a star in the right team and coached well

If we sign Grealish AND Zaha that would mean 7 'first-team' attacking midfielders in the squad

Would one of them perhaps be used in CM this season (possibly Eriksen)?

Which would mean that Herc's '3rd signing' might not necessarily be a CM?

Just an observation...

Well Fergie obviously saw something in him, and so does Poch by the sound of it.

I have to say though, that with what the various ITK are saying about this, coupled with a long track record of not getting deals done, I really don’t have any confidence that this will get done.

You seem to be really on the ball with this deal. Do you know why we never move early for him? With Poch being such a clear fan you think we would bid big and early. Not towards the end of the window each time when it is harder for them to replace.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Levy's hardball may have something to do with it and might be self defeating.

I am a massive supporter of Levy, but my one criticism of him with be his approach to transfers. Don't get me wrong. generally his moves seems to pay off when it comes to up and coming talent and bargains. But you get the feeling that we also miss out on top players we enquire about because of this last minute quibbling. I think Levy needs to be a bit more pragmatic. He can play his haggling game up to a point. But there is also probably a stage where he has to bite the bullet and take a punt, which he doesn't really do unless it's the last day of the window.

Overall I think Levy's hardball has benefitted the club in terms of being able to invest in the training ground, stadium, etc. But I do wish, just occasionally, he'd take a proper transfer risk.

Having said all that, where Zaha is concerned, I don't believe we should be arse raped by Palace. The player will comand a high transfer fee and then will no doubt expect super wages. I can understand why Levy might be reluctant, especially in this window, let alone past windows.

I'm sure transfer deals are far from easy, most of them complicated, however ours always seem more complicated than other teams. I assume this is to do with Levy always wanting a deal. With Poch being vocal in saying he wanted deals done early and for the club to be brave, I would say he will be fuming if Levy does not get the players he has asked for. Poch has recently signed a new deal, but I can't help feeling he may well feel let down and look to pastures new in the near future

Wonder if Sky’s release has anything to do with Rebrabs ‘watch the media’ from yesterday. Bit unsure on whether I can mention exactly what it is so maybe have a look and make your own minds up...
Perhaps one of you gentlemen could direct me to the apt player thread that might allow me to facilitate this discussion further?

I'm 100% sure we will not sign Zaha. We aren't Liverpool, we don't pay the "top dollar" necessary to poach other PL sides best players.

Chalk this one up as a "we tried but......"
We signed Dav Sanchez for £43m from Holland. 65m In the EPL is cheap

I agree in theory but we have a good relationship with Ajax and i'd wager a large amount of that fee was maintaining that relationship. It's most likely a door we will be knocking on in the future.

I don’t think DL overpaying to maintain a relationship works for me

I don’t know if Zaha would be my first choice the fee means nothing in the scheme of things overall I think he would improve us

I rate Zaha but this surprises me - there's about a dozen I'd put ahead of him.
Name them ?

Edit: seen you did and listed Bernardo Silva and Firminho as wide players. Interesting definition there. Not wide players for me. Sanchez not as good as a wide player either. Zaha comfortably top 10, pushing on top 5 in the league. Sterling, Sane, Hazard, Mahrez are the obvious wide men with pace who are better. Mané and Salah not wide men for Liverpool but you could argue. Otherwise it’s him...

Long time lurker here.
Wanted to say that despite the bad start to the window up until now, if we manage secure Zaha, Grealish, keep Toby and an extra signing on top I will consider it a successful window as put my hands into my pockets.
Thanks for the constant ITK Hercules et al!

Personaly I wouldn’t call it a successful window unless we get a qulity CM.

Storts on coys

Chelsea very keen on Zaha - no idea about our interest but it’s real from their end
