There's literally no other legitimate options out there for us to make a 'statement' signing, so don't expect one.

We should just go back to targeting younger signings with potential, it's clear we just can't compete for top players.

Did Paul Mitchell leave on bad terms?

Apparently.

So let’s get this straight, the collective ITKs are saying:
- very young players don’t think they’ll get in our side
- quite young good players would rather move to better teams who are already challenging
- championship players are over priced
- bridges have been burnt with former employees
- bridges were never built with agents
- established players are too expensive
- and we have no money anyway

Hmmm. I guess we must be the only team in the world to who this aggregation of issues applies, and this therefore explains why everyone else has been able to strengthen their squad while we just paper over the cracks.

We’ve had a golden generation of players, spearheaded by one that came through our youth team (how often will one of the worlds best strikers come through our youth team and commit?), but whether the log jam is Poch being picky, Levy (whether through a lack of cash because he won’t play the game with agents) or a mixture, we’re heading into the summer with the very real possibility of losing not only Dembele (who was the heartbeat not long ago) but Eriksen, Toby and possibly the manager.

We’ve been standing still for a long time now, and I think the impact of that, with others strengthening, is going to become very real in the next 12 to 18 months.

We may just creep over the line and get in the top 4 this year, but who thinks the summer will be anything other than the usual nonsense?

The ITK is exactly how it’s always been - indicative of lots of goodwill and effort (at least on the face of it) but a total lack of ability to convert

If we’d sold Eriksen on 1st Jan for £80m we’d have signed at least one player by end of January in my opinion. We love an excuse as to why we we’re not buying, we really do.

I’m sceptical on the goodwill.

Indeed. Frankly, the above is symptomatic if people not doing their job properly.

Player transfers is one of the most fundamental parts of modern football to get right.

I have no idea what Mitchell and the like get paid, but if we’re paying Levy 6m a year (seems mental) then surely a budget of (no idea, but for illustration) 10m a year for a team of transfer gurus to do what Levy can’t (ie build bridges, be liked by others...) to help with transfers, surely that would pay itself back in spades?

I’m sure that a totally naive statement, but whatever is going on re: transfers, it’s going wrong and it’ll cost ok the pitch, and as a consequence, financially

So the latest for JJ means we have gone from Rabiot, Isco, Werner and AN Other to no one likely....Got to love transfer window

He also said: “Poch press conference yesterday ? Tottenham are working on 'a few options' in the transfer market, Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed ?” as per @Colonel Dax in the rabiot thread

No doubt we won’t be able to get them over the line in time, not our fault, but we’re putting the groundwork in for the summer

Spurs transfer windows are like Christmas for me. I used to be absolutely mental for it as a kid even if we did just get a big bag of random crap but these days I just get bored, nostalgic and want to drink a lot.

Ironic that as the latest Deloitte football rich list is released showing us in the top 10 in world football that when it comes to spending on players we behave like Accrington Stanley. Spurs transfer windows are now like Groundhog Day.

Any excuse not to get players in. How long before the fax machine breaks again?

We've been told repeatedly that there's money available, so it's about time we stopped blaming everybody or everything but ourselves for not getting players in. The club needs to take some fucking responsibility for the transfer shambles that is occurring at the moment.
