Whilst we are still In the top four. I can fully understand the stalemate. We can’t win the league. We haven’t got the revenue until the new stadium is paying the bucks. We have a short term injury crisis. But we are still in 3 cups. Poch is right in not wanting to A) buy an expensive player who isn’t on his A list. B) spend money he can save until next season. When hopefully we are still in the champions league. And in the new stadium. Yes it’s a gamble. But our form has been good. And we have a squad that’s capable. And a youth squad he can dip into if needed. I actually get this approach. It’s a risk. But I would trust Poch to know his team. And the youth team. And be able to get us through this.
The problem at the club is we are avoiding the possibility of failure. Completely ignoring it. Riding our luck. Shouldn't a smart businessman evaluate the obvious and possible risks to us and make a rational decision? So because we're in top 4 atm, we should just relax because it means we will be top 4 at the end of the season? A lot could change.

I know not strictly ITK (banning stick wafting behind me) but I recall seeing Dan Kilpatrick say specifically we were looking for a CM in La Liga, but I don’t remember seeing any links to a La Liga midfielder...

Maybe we should run a poll in order to work out what we should do with Hotspur Way. A housing development maybe or what about a shopping centre? Its clearly a pointless investment and we should just model ourselves on west ham and their training facilities....http://www.footballtraininggrounds.com/tottenham.html#

“In 2010, La Masia became the first youth academy to have trained all three finalists for the Ballon d'Or in a single year, with Andrés Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Xavi.” What the fuck do they know....

Poch isn’t a businessman and it sounds like his decision.

Jesus the way half of you are banging on it's like everyone else in the Prem has splashed the cash in this window.

There's been two deals of note in the Prem, Pulisic who was loaned straight back and Solanke to Bournemouth. That's it.

It's always been difficult to get real quality in January, Poch isn't going to get people in just for numbers as in March when everyone is fit again they won't even be making the bench if they're not up to standard and then we're left with another player on the wage bill taking up space in the squad.

If you can't trust DL and/or Poch when we've been third all season despite the injuries and despite the stadium situation then you need to have a word with yourself.

Some of you guys are hilarious. Here we are in the itk thread, with actual posts by the person who has the most proven track record of providing itk of all, and you're just completely ignoring it and the message it gives, because you want to have a cry about something.

Worse, you're ignoring what Poch himself has said. Because obviously your random thoughts make way more sense than his actual knowledge of the situation.

The club isn't falling apart, Daniel Levy isn't failing to back Poch, we don't need to sign expensive players just because other clubs do, we are still on track- ahead of schedule, even- for the long term plan that has always been in place. We cannot compete financially with Man City, we will not pay extortionate agent fees like Liverpool -and rightly so, we do have an excellent academy and a manager who has the ability to use it for the long term benefit of the club.

Honestly, the way some of you go on it's as if you'd like us to behave like West Ham. Because making expensive signings has worked out so well for them, eh.

100% we have to make the most of these facilities, but not to the exclusion of actually buying players - like every other club on the planet, including 2010 Barcelona.

So what's the excuse for the failure to spend 0 last summer when most prem clubs splashed the cash? Fulham 100m+?And we clearly needed reinforcements?

Some of what this guy is smoking pls.... Did you just compare our academy with La Masia? Even with that fantastic source of players, FCB never stopped adding quality to boost their ranks from outside. Even at that, there are huge concerns at FCB that they are no longer producing the same level of quality as before. More and more of their young players are being shipped out not making the grade. Still making a profit cause they are Barca kids but not necessarily boosting the first team. We can’t really claim to be making the same sort of income from castoffs, usually can’t get rid of them....

Did Man United have the class of 92 and just think that was super? No, they added star quality on top of that whenever they could and improved. And won things.

Oh I really think there are very few that will dismiss the huge improvements made in infrastructure or who disagree with trying to bring through some youth players of a good quality.

Levy has to be applauded for aspects of our Club development, this certainly being one of them.

Your example of Barca and La Masia is a great objective to strive for. But within context of the year you have used...

In 07/08 and 08/09, Barca signed amongst others : Yaya Toure, Henry, Abidal, Milito, Dani Alves, Seydou Keita and Pique.

It's really an approach that has to incorporate the best of youth development and ambition in the market place.

That same ITK has also inferred that he sees it as a risk himself, as has another. We all want the best for the club, most would probably rather us try and mitigate that risk while we actually can. The club seems to agree as they've been offering Poch players.

I have faith in Poch, but I do wonder if doing nothing now is too much of a handicap for even he to overcome. Seems a big gamble to me. We need CL football in the new stadium next year.

Mate, if Levy and the club think that is the approach we are going to take to win trophies, they are wasting their time and we are all screwed. Barcelona always supplemented that team with the very best players from around the world and from their own league.

If Levy thinks we can get away without spending 70 million on top players because he thinks we will unearth the English versions of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi in Essex and Hertfordshire, the guy is insane and so is anyone who thinks that is the way to go.

It's all well and good having a great academy, but we've already won the lottery by having Kane come through, one of the best English striker's ever. It won't happen again for a very long time, probably not in our lifetimes. Regardless, the kids need to be supplemented with the best players from around Europe if we are to win major trophies. That last bit is critical.

I hate hearing 'ahead of schedule' nonsense, if you're ahead of schedule, why not use that as a motivator instead of an excuse to just sit down and wait till we are 'on schedule'. Being ahead of schedule shows major improvement and ambition whereby many benefits would come with it - CL, trophies, exciting players.

Therefore, for this club in particular, being ahead of schedule is actually our weakness because it could mean we miss out on a bright future and the 'Golden Era' will die.

No of course. But we do buy and we do spend. We also have to at some point start benefiting from the huge investment made in that training ground by bringing through a regular stream of players.
