if he is manager he portrays himself as, then why cant he buy a alternative player and turn them into the player he would want us to waste all this money for?
For me the club is stuck in a hard place, the transfer norms have changed drastically in the past two years. £35m get you now a potential young talent that everyone is aware of. We need to be identifying players like say Piatek before they make an impact. But then again that would go against what Pochettino wants. Adapt the Chelsea model of buying up young players and loaning them out.
I only see this ending really bad for us. No Pochettino and no decent players in 2/3 years time.

But why buy a player at all when he can do that with kids we've already got?

is it me or are we in a bit of a stalemate here:

Poch: looking for prime targets that will take 70 - 80 % of our transfer budget
Club: won't spend 70 - 80 % of our transfer budget on one player

I don't think that's what's being said. JJ said yesterday that Poch and Levy are aligned. It seems that neither of them want to pay for players that they feel are overpriced.

I'm sure Poch and Daniel Levy are singing from the same song sheet. The fact is that we've over-achieved several years in a row now and are well ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, fans expectations have been dragged along at the same pace but it's obviously unrealistic to expect us to throw cash around like our rivals. Poch has always asked for patience which to me indicates that he's here for the long game which is about as good as it gets. We're building something special here.

I go from agreeing with you in terms of it being a long term process but then part of me thinks we had a golden era period where our first 11 and 3 more players were incredible and we needed I felt 2 more players to bring home the title. I feel like in the last 2 seasons that golden era team has slowly been dwindling down, through players being sold, certain players getting injuries and not getting to the same level and this summer I feel we will lose 2 more at least. I feel we have going from needing 2 to needing 6 and I think the expression is "strike whilst the iron is hot" we didn't do that and now I'm worried we missed the boat and let others pass us by.

Also I accidentally gave you a rating when trying to quote you, so ignore that.

Think people need to take a step back.

What if our budget is £100m. What if yes Werner costs 60/70m now but 40m come summer? We rush it through now and pay a premium just for the next couple of games. 2 weeks and we have Son, Lucas and Sissoko back.

Do we really want to throw £20-£30m away for a player to cover for the next few games? Who will probably take a couple weeks to get up to speed anyway (Poch never ever puts new signings in straight away)

We have enough of a squad to secure top 4. This season is an anomaly compared to others. We are ahead of where we wanted to be by this time so perhaps we have to take a short step back to take a massive leap forward - it’s how we’ve progressed over the last 10 years

The problem is we’ve been here a million times before. We all know we will not sign Werner for 40 million in the summer. Is it really likely that out of all the top clubs in Europe, we are the only one who is tempted to sign a player if that calibre for relative peanuts.

I can't believe any Spurs fan on here would rather we play kids than bring in top quality proven players who can help us win trophies? Get real guys, we don't have some special academy filled with a dozen Harry Kane's. Our academy is no better than any of the other top clubs. We won't progress if we fill our squad with academy kids. It's a complete lack of ambition.

Just imagine DL doesn’t sign another player in Jan or next summer. The outrage from the fans would be insane! Poch knows eventually DL will have to deliver a player he really wants. However if we fall short of CL this season it’s going to be squeaky bum time regarding transfers in the summer.
The funny thing is that if we miss out on CL then in the summer we may find ourselves looking at different players. Maybe players that aren't already hot property and being chased by the top teams (like Werner and De Jong) but less proven ones. So we may have better chance of signing them and not waiting on them because they think they might sign for a top club (like Malcom did to Roma). It just seems like we're too ambitious going after players we still can't sign rather than more realistic, albeit risky ones (like Berge).

This won’t be a popular opinion, but it amazes me how deeply unhappy some of you seem to be with the club.

I absolutely love the way we operate. I love our players attitudes and commitment. Times are as good as they have ever been for me in my 33 years as a fan.

The fact we do things so differently to the other ‘big’ clubs just makes me love Tottenham Hotspur even more.

I posted this last August, lets not forget...

“Earlier in the week I mentioned that maybe it wasnt DL who didnt want to spend, I was also told that MP wants to promote/use more of the youth….”

Really appreciate the info and you were clearly right on the money.

I just don't understand. Yes Poch sees these youth players day in day out, however, a lot of people on here with a very good knowledge of the youth system don't seem to think we have anything that special coming through right now who could make the step up to the first team.

It's just bizarre.

It’s all well and good talking about promoting youth but the quality has to be there. Obviously a Kane and a Winks are amazing examples but looking through the u23s and u18 stuff there doesn’t seem to be too many leading lights bar Skipp, the injured Amos and Parrott who is only 16. There don’t seem to be too many others knocking the door down and you can’t make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. If youth is good enough they will come through. I’m not convinced ours are.

His recent interviews also go along with that. When he spoke after the Tranmere game he did mention about not blocking young talent coming through. After the Kane injury he mentioned that we can't sign a player like Kane so we need to try and develop one from the academy. The post JJ put up he also said fans need to be patient while we build something special. It all adds to the idea that he wants to build his own La Masia here.

I just can't believe some people are content with playing the kids/reserves instead of splashing say 70% of budget on Werner (who has to be liked by Poch otherwise I have no idea what he's thinking). Have some ambition.

After Poch first said he wanted to promote/use more of the youth, is he actually delivering on this/making the most out of the academy?

Amos: Played against Newcastle, but never seen again, then got injured - maybe would have appeared more if the latter never happened

Skipp: Made a handful of appearence this season, but has only started a couple

Onomah: Loaned out - we've been light in central midfield this season, we could have used him, closest player to Dembele we have

Edwards: Loaned out - amazing cross aside, when Nkoudou is still making the bench surely Edwards could have been used

KWP: Despite Trippier playing absolutely awful this season, and us crying out for a decent fullback, he can't get a run of games

Roles: Prolific goalscorer for the U23s and is having a great season, could genuinely surprise a few if given a chance - bit like Dele

Wouldn't say the youth are featuring enough / playing a big enough role in our first 11 to justify this sort of statement and stance.
Not like we've had a youth player come in and elevate us like a new signing would.

How can so many people justify their views when they have to continually use the word if.

How is Werner proven top quality?

how many times has he played in the PL, how many medals has he won playing in the Bunders.

Waiting for the summer would be a greedy, arrogant and naive move by the club, just in order to save a few million quid. I say few because 40m (supposed Werner price in summer) is basically fuck all now, that would be totally covered by getting top 4. But instead we'd rather spend 0 and risk losing top 4 to get targets in the summer, but if we do miss out, then we're at square 1 again where our players will want to leave due to no CL, players won't come without CL. Besides, who's to even say they'd come this summer; Werner will clearly have demand at 40m from all the Elite clubs which will just push his price back up to what it is today or even higher who knows.

This could be Levy's biggest mistake at his time at the club and I hope we all don't suffer from it.

Eh? We've just had ITK from various sources saying it's Poch who doesn't want to sign anyone and you're still blaming the club/Levy?

Unless you play for Bayern Munich or to a lesser extent Dortmund, you aren't winning any German trophies, and by the time players are at those clubs, we can't sign them.

Werner is exactly the type of player we should be going for.

Fuuuuuuck me...

ITK says Poch and Dan have a good relationship, anc that maybe Poch only wants a select few signings to improve the squad. Poch also wants to bring youth through. We also know Poch doesn’t drop new signings into the first team immediately, and in a couple of weeks we will have 3 players back (Son, Moura, Sissoko).

Maybe there’s no need to panic buy right now, at least in the eyes of those who matter and make the decisions.

Why stress just because the decisions being made don’t align to what you want?

that's because they are the 2 biggest and richest clubs in Germany, where its hard to compete and win trophies for the lesser teams

we are the 6th richest club in the toughest league and financially miles behind those above us, which makes winning or buying trophies so much harder
