Benega is in his last year wouldn't he be a better option?
Not for me, personally. If Poch really, really wants Schneiderlin then I'd give him what he wants. He's Premier League proven and also counts as homegrown, so I'd be worried if we hadn't anticipated having to pay a large fee for him.

I honestly would not be surprised if the CH turns out to be John O'Shea after all. Surely we would be able to get him for a reasonable price - Danny Rose swap with some money coming our way also?

Not saying I want him, but he's an experienced 'older' player rather than someone who would expect to be in the team every game.

Fairly sure we will get these two. Then we need an experienced CB and a LWF who will get us some goals. I'd like Ron Vlaar and Kono/Jay Rodriguez, and I reckon we could get the two for less than £25m.
Ron vlaar would be a good signing, last year of contract. Only thing is he is 29 I think. No resale but solid defender.

Does no one here rate zeke fryers? Even as back up? I thought he did decently when he filled in last year. I'd be more than happy with Davies and fryers/bae as backup. That leaves the 3 to come in as schneiderlin (will assume Sandro goes), a cb such as dier, and what must be a lwf, someone of the ilk of konoplyanka/rodriguez/griezmann. While griezmann is unlikely I know, he has been linked and if you don't ask you'll never receive. Anything more and we'll face upheaval again, And thankfully Poch seems to appreciate this. It can't all be done in one go.

Fryers didn't look very comfortable at left back on sat night. Never passed the ball forward. Think he needs a bit longer.

Saturday night was a) a first warm up game, b) a mixture of players in ever changing positions due to subs (think lamella ended up in holding role with mason) and c) a god awful surface to play on (everybody on our side needed 2 touches to control the ball).. Fryers has been steadily improving over the past year and should be given a chance.

Re Update 84: Keep in mind that if the stories about Rose are correct then we may have to sign a second LB..

Don't see us signing two. I reckon if we get Davies and sell Rose we will just use Vertonghen and Fryers as cover

Would agree with Vlaar. 29 yrs old, premier league experierence under 6 mil consistant player and would suppliment verts and chriches. No risk. If we can get into top 4 then we can reasses.

According to Bill they now have to attend morning prayers with Benjimin Netanyahu (or something).

Rather see Poch mould Sandro into a CB than sign O'Shea. Then again I'm just looking for any situation in which we can keep Sandro around.

It's all very well saying he should be given a chance, but when the window shuts it's too late. Say Davies gets a bad injury for 2 months. I think it would be silly to hope zeki can play that roll being so young. But to be fair he couldn't be any worse than rose. Especially a pissed off rose that won't of been happy sitting on the bench if he stayed.

From what I have seen, I don't think Fryers is good enough yet. I think he should go on loan to another PL team (like Walker, Naughton and Rose) and benefit from playing week in, week out and see how he performs. I guess it depends on whether Rose is going to be sold or not.

I'd be very wary with those suggesting vlaar. Yes he had an outstanding World Cup but was part of a very average/poor villa team last year. He just looks shiny and new because of his World Cup performances. I would rather we looked elsewhere tbh.

Fryers is 8 months older than Davies

Ok,ok. Stat man :) Experience wise. There is a massive gulf between the 2 players.
True.

I think I saw signs of Fryers being a bit empowered on Saturday.
Last season, I always felt he looked like the new kid, just happy to be there but slightly in awe of his surroundings. On Saturday, he looked more confident, as if he belonged in the squad & it was good to see.

I've high hopes that Poch can extract a good player from a few of the younger fringe players.
A few of them aren't as young as we think (as we've just seen!) and it's very much now or never for them.
