So no one is worried about Herc's comment about concern with "coming up short" being justified? Seems like his optimism has slowly faded over the past few months. I hope I am interpreting this incorrectly.

Posted the same a few days ago about his usual optimism seemingly waning.

Its all still rather new for veteran spurs fans all this secrecy and buying 1 or 2 players in a window and of such great quality. It wasn't all that long ago we were pretty much buying 3-4 average first teamers in a window. I don't doubt for a minute Levy/Poch are hard at it, just need to be patient (which every Spurs fan isn't). ITKers thank you for passing on what you can, even though it must been frustrating at times.

Have we had any itk on malcom recently? If we aren't targeting him surely we should be optimistic we are focusing on bigger fish

Levy needs to change his stance if we're going to get anyone in. I firmly believe that he's holding out for players to leave before committing to buying new players, obviously thats a good business plan but I think its going to leave us short.
For me, lets get a couple of our main targets in and then ship out the fringe players, if we need to take a hit on the selling costs or loan fees being lower, so be it.
Levy Doesn't want potential buyers to think we're desperate and will play the long game in order to get a higher price when selling, by doing this he's going to once again go to the back end of the transfer deadline and end up missing out on first team targets and settle for another Sissoko type buy.
Hope I'm wrong, but we continually make the same mistakes over and over again.

The sell before we buy policy will surely be a major issue from this season on, given that European leagues can still do business after our window closes so will be happy to wait.

previous ITK has alluded to freeing up spaces as well so that we can actually register the players bought in to play. Otherwise it will be like me in football manger where I get trigger happy!

Hopefully it won’t get ignored like all the rest of the ITK that doesn’t fit certain agendas.

If it doesn't fit the narrative...

We do need to sell at some point. We can currently field a 24 man squad in the CL, I believe (I think the PL rules on squad makeup are more lenient), so ideally we'd be bringing in Grealish (association-trained) to take us to 25 and then it's one in, one out for first-team players. That's assuming we're not making any promotions from the U23s to the first team beyond Walker-Peters.

Players moving on is a reality, and if we buy but don't sell, we're then looking to loan out fringe players like Llorente, Janssen or whoever and probably having to swallow some of their wages as clubs will know we're otherwise paying all their wages while they only play for the U23 team.

Have we had any itk on malcom recently? If we aren't targeting him surely we should be optimistic we are focusing on bigger fish

I think there was something a few days ago about our monitoring the situation with him and Inter, but not going all out for him at this moment.

Hopefully if it's true that the sell to buy is not purely for financial reasons, Levy and co have set up a cut off point where we shift focus on to incomings up until PL deadline day, then focus on shifting the deadwood abroad for the rest of August after.

It would weaken our negotiating position but you know they'd all want loan deals anyway...

The only positive for me is our apparent main targets wether all of them or some ie Martial, De Legit, Malcolm, Gomes, Barrios, Pavard. Haven’t gone anywhere else yet, yet! lol. COYS

When we want sell, we apparently have to buy first so we can get good prices on the arrivals. When we want to buy we apparently have to sell first so we can good prices on the departures.

I'm sure those ITK have said this is a rather simplistic understanding. and I'm sure it is.

Likewise the stuff about putting football before profit/money. Levy doesn't do that. He puts being successful in football first, and he knows that to do that long term you need to avoid throwing your resources away, so you can make them go as far as possible.

That's what it means to manage the club well. Which Levy most certainly has.

Many of us have been underwhelmed by the transfer activity in Windows past, but we have been improving for years, and now we are really good. So I guess our being under or over whelmed isn't a good guide to how we are or will be doing.

It's the best time to be a Spurs fan I can remember, and I'm mid forties. No grumbling here. Bring on Grealish, and let's see what he can do. I'd love it if he tears up the league like Dele, while the other top clubs spend double for equal quality from more successful clubs.

Anyone rich can buy the best players. We are overachievers.
