Thanks for the info. As expected the lad wants to play for Villa if they get promoted - fair play. Surely this type of signing or position would depend on whether Eriksen leaves ?

I get the impression that we won't do any business until levy and Poch meet after the CL Final which could see other clubs moving ahead on such targets like Sess n Grealish

I thought they wouldn't entertain any discussion on our players before the final, not that they wouldn't start enquiring about players to buy. I think the point was that they want all of our players focussed for the final and not get distracted by the possibility of leaving for another club.

EDIT: @Mister Jez , well spotted! I have edited and emboldened my errors. Thanks for letting me know by the deserved disagree! :)

I'd hope we'd still be Grealish's first choice if Villa didn't come up.

I wonder if the clause is lower for a CL team (maybe with bonuses) than one outside. In which case someone like Utd or Leicester getting involved could end up taking the price above our valuation.

Get the feeling that Utd could become a problem with our lower end targets. Already seem to have made moves for James and Sessegnon. That's how much they've fallen.

Cheers for the info @Trix

Thanks for the info Trix.

Isn't the rumored release clause for Grealish around 60 mil? (Not a question for Trix - just a general statement).

Why we didn't just pay what they asked before the owner's switch last year still makes no sense.

Probably for the same reason that keeps coming up. Poch didn’t want players that were not going to improve the 1st, not unless they were a cheap option.

All the articles last year seemed to be around £40-50m. Trix says it's a lot more complicated than that though. Like who goes for him etc...

I don't want to sound like a miserable old Spurs curmudgeon but a: he's probably going up and b: it seems everyone is talking about him now. So a and/or b means we won't be getting him.

Mods, close threads.

You're welcome.

A probably but b don't agree that he wont come because everyone is talking about him. Who's going to go for him? Chelsea have a transfer ban. Doubt city would want him. Liverpool maybe? Utd possibly? You'd have to argue we'd be a bigger pull than anyone else at the moment.

Good point re other clubs and yes I'm scarred by my recurring nightmare in which we don't sign anyone else ever again.

More seriously though, I'm convincing myself that United are going to go in for all the types we will: young and hungry. But then offer them more money.

Argh! ?

Another summer of perfectly logical reasoning and tales of hard luck seems in the offing, explaining in great detail why we are not getting our targets to sign for us... again.

Man that release clause is confusing, if I was a spurs rival i'd just bid a stupid amount on grealish to raise his release clause, although I'm probably oversimplifying

I don't have the connections that Trix does and I don't doubt the info, but a friend of the family is close to the Grealish family, and she was told a couple of months ago that Jack would be willing to join Spurs in the summer if a bid was made, whether Villa were promoted or not.

Obviously, he could've changed his mind since then, but I don't think we should be ruling him out of moving. I mean, it's not like he's never played for Villa in the Premier League before.

Be pretty stupid to lose out on a player just because you have a game coming up. If there is business to be done i am sure they will do it irrelevant of the time frame. They could agree the deal and announce it after the game.

I don’t think Grealish is the only option. We must be looking at a number of positions for strengthening.
