I was hoping for a signing before the World Cup started. I suppose there’s still time!

Meh. The only time that timing is critical is deadline day. Otherwise I’m happy to wait, if we get players Poch wants.

which is why I put Martial won't happen, because they won't sell to us at the moment
That’s what I don’t get, if Levy would be willing to sell Toby to them How could they then turn around and say they won’t sell to us? Or are you saying they won’t sell until the Toby deal is settled first? I personally think it could all be part of the same deal! Toby comes to us and martial comes to us?

Because at the moment they’re offering probably 20-30m more for Toby than anyone else, and that likely won’t be true for us and Martial.

Start of preseason would be a better deadline.
I agree, there will be a lot of teams, including us who will have players coming back late to training etc. for once I would love us to start the season with our business done. I know it is tough and I am sure that is what we want every year. But I think Daniel is going to have to forego that wheeler dealer bit this year and pay a little extra to get the players want early and get the team together for at least a few preseason games. This way we can hit the ground running and hit some of our rivals who will have players late back from countries that may go further in the WC ( Brazil, Spain, France, Germany, Argentina etc) plus having late signings! This to me would be a great strategy that might ( or might not depending on market after WC) cost a little extra money, but I feel it would pay off during the season to have a tighter team at the first half of the season?

Certainly sounds like a Levy deal!

The transfer window closes before the seasons begins this year doesn't it? Our business will all be done :)

I do get your point though. Although somebody in the know was recently talking about how it's better to do the "defensive" stuff first (new contracts for players you want to keep, sell players you don't want to keep) so that you can then focus on the "offensive" stuff (signing new players) without worrying about your squad changing at the last minute.

With that in mind it wouldn't surprise me if we saw Toby being sorted before anything might happen with Martial. If somebody like Grealish came in early(ish) I would imagine it's because they aren't one of our top targets. As we get our house in order we will turn focus to the big names.

Could all be wrong of course!

Transfers and contracts will happen when they happen. There's no list of what to do first. We'll be working on both throughout the summer.

Have we got the answer yet to the "I shot the sheriff" cryptic?

Bob Marley wrote the song, Marley’s Dad was Anthony, Bob was partial to a smoke, so Anthony (the Dad) Mar(ley-par)tial

Anthony Martial..

Yeah, it’s a bit of a stretch, and maybe not true. On with your day.
