Smith is a very strange batsman and one that is very hard to find a comparative for. He is not very pleasing on the eye such as a Gower or a Ponting etc but he seems to have a superb eye and great judgement which is impossible to coach - it’s all natural.
He seems to be winning this test on his own as chasing 250+ will be a big ask.

This has classic England written all over it. Struggle to take wickets followed by a monumental collapse in the second innings as they make it look like the opposition bowlers are operating on a completely different wicket :(

This benign wicket is very nearly a 'day 5 wicket' already. It'll be important to remember that during the campaign of excuses.

I can’t see it going from benign to raging Bunsen overnight :D Not massively.

But no doubt it will though and our batsmen will make Nathan Lyon look the the result of a drunken union between Shane Warne and Muttiah Murilitharan, that’s where the excuses will come in. We picked a spinner who struggles to bowl a decent delivery and who’s confidence is shot. Poor selection also played its part.

Hopefully rain will fall for long enough to take 70 or 80 overs out of the day :D

Gonna need some rain or an earthquake tomorrow, its our only hope. Can't see us batting out the day.

Lyon will be spoken of as the second excellent Australian spinner since whenever-it-is, and briefly perched on the same shelf as Warne, as people de-emphasise the differences in their excitement.

In a welter of mentions of footholes and extra spin, the 'day 5 wicket' totem will survive despite the pitch being the same as this afternoon.

Moeen won't survive looking feebler than Denly though, I think. There's the added attraction for the selectors of being cute enough to pick a left arm spinner, just to target Smith's weakness against them, if they back Leach. They know they have to try something.
