The umpires are told now that the batsman's position can be taken into account. I've seen balls well outside the tramlines not given as wide because the batsman had moved right across.

I agree, but for it not to be a wide they’ve got to fully shuffle across the wicket before the bowler releases the ball, otherwise it will be called a wide.

Eg. Not a wide

.................. stumps .......... wide
.................................... batsman
.......................................... ball

Wide

................. stumps .......... wide
....................... batsman............
...........................................ball

Chill out man.

It's not like I called a kid who just won a World Cup under the greatest pressure possible "pathetic" or anything.

I’m fine, you’re the only throwing your toys out of your pram

He was on the move before it was bowled
But it's irrelevant as it was on the line and therefore should not have been called wide.

It was a wide, called a wide and not a great ball.

Even great people in cricket and other sports can do something pathetic yet then still go on to produce something great to win the game.

We seem to have differing understanding of the term "pathetic".

Jofra Archer has been one of the best bowlers in this World Cup. His bowling in this Final was nothing short of incredible.

So, when in the cauldron of a Super Over - thrown the responsibility over vastly more experienced bowlers - he happens to perhaps bowl 2 single deliveries that do not exactly hit the sport intended I do not think, under those circumstances it is fair or reasonable for anyone to describe that as "pathetic". "poor" maybe; "lacking composure" perhaps.

But "pathetic"?

Really?

I think it reflects far worse on the person on wrote that than any delivery by Jofra Archer. And I'm pretty sure any cricketer that ever played would agree with me.

Onions..

Just hope the lads who are going to be taking part in the ashes go easy on the grog in the next few days and refocus - otherwise we might get caught cold.
I am still haunted by Spurs winning the league cup in 2008, going on the piss in Faeces night club and getting whacked 5 something in Birmingham the next game and it was all downhill for Juande Ramos from there.

At the end of the day the umpire called it a wide. Ball on the line often goes in the batsman’s favour. In test cricket it’s unlikely to have been given as a wide but the rules aren’t as strict in that form of the game. Its a bit like a ball down the leg side in test cricket isn’t a wide but in one day cricket it is.

Just seen that England only won the super over as they hit more boundaries during the game.

Wow again.

Not looking forward to the Ashes as the Aussies have a really strong team whereas England have a massive dilemma with their openers... I’d play Roy and Bairstow but they’re both carrying injuries.

Everyone knows anything Legside of the stumps will be given wide (even though there is a line about two inches from leg stump which is supposed to be a guide) but outside off the line is there for that reason, in tests and one dayers

The rules are batsman friendly in short form cricket. Despite the final not being a run fest it was an incredible spectacle from a nerve racking perspective. It was however too bowler friendly and barring a couple of improvised shots there was not a lot in it for the batsmen.

An amazing game of cricket and the best I have ever seen. Really feel for New Zealand as on balance they probably deserved to win the game and England really rode their luck to win but win they did.

Come on England!!!!!!!!

If wood could fucking run the super over would've been irrelevant.

Still I had a nice ACCA pay out on Halep, Djokovic 3-2 and England to win (luckily they paid out as there was no match tied option)

Just starting to calm down now.

That rule is a joke

I would expect the team chasing to have more boundaries given they would be going for it...

There are certainly some rules in cricket that could be tightened up...

Just an amazing win. I love football but a run chase in cricket is so dramatic and today with the super over was amazing. Pure drama.

Not necessarily, the team chasing is under the pressure of a run chase and likely to make more mistakes by going for boundaries. England when opening are brutal and rack up a shed load of boundaries. Today we didn’t run many 1s, 2s or 3s and opted to go for boundaries only. This nearly cost us in the end but it was also down to fitness, Roy and Bairstow are both carrying injuries and by the end Stokes was absolutely exhausted.
