138-5 and one of our perceived best batsmen, a guy I’ve endorsed for the captaincy, is out needlessly sweeping.

I’m honestly fucking done with this shambles of a “team”.
They've dropped 2 as well.
At least we'll get to see Archer having a bowl shortly.

Cook averages 47 this season.
Ballance, who I think has fixed his technique averages close to 60.
Dom Sibley also scoring big runs.

If I was the selectors, I’d be doing everything I could to get these guys into the team.

Denly has a reasonable technique, and then has a brain fart and gets out. Can't make my mind up about him, but if he has not got the temperament at this level then its a waste of time.
Woakes is rapidly looking like a top 6 batsman on a par with Stokes - very good average over the last year or so.

Useful runs from Woakes again but he looked very uncomfortable once they started bowling short to him. He's going to need to work on that as he's going to get the same all through the series now.

Shades of Broad when he took a blow to the head. Went from being a very gifted batsman to somebody visibly afraid of anything short.

This is one of the big problems with cricket though as the venue can dictate much on what is a decent score and what is below par.

This alongside the toss having far too big an influence if the wicket deteriorates then it’s tough to know what a good score is

Another wicket before close of play would be most welcome. Think that would maybe just about see the days battle equal out somewhat.

Fair play to him. Silly dismissal, mind...

You (and I to be honest) were going to drop him for this match. It shows that backing talent isn't always stubbornly wrong. We made too many changes too readily years ago and while we think they may have gone too far the other way, it's a very difficult line to draw.
