We don't have a rugby world cup...? Did you just phrase that really badly? :ROFLMAO:

As soon as England/GB started funding their sports properly and acting professionally about 15/20 years ago all the previous Aussie "dominance" disappeared almost overnight as the new generation of athletes and sportspeople came through the system.

It's all very well being good at sports which are only played by a handful of countries - at anything truly international Australia are shit. There hasn't been a decent Aussie tennis player in a decade - and why bring up Wimbledon specifically?

Brits suffer from an inferiority complex such that their press was always fawning over Australia when they should've been questioning why their sportsmen weren't successful. Now of course they're funded and managed properly and the worm has turned. Look at the last 15 years of Olympic medal tables - GB has gone from being 20 medals behind Australia in 2004 to winning three times the amount of medals as Australia in 2016.

There's absolutely no interest in Australia or their sport in the UK - literally none. The only time it comes up outside of playing against you directly is when England/GB are successful in something and the Aussies feel the need to pipe up and start crowing about something which has nothing to do with them.

They'd be better off getting back in their box because the days of fake Australian dominance are well and truly over.

Australia had a golden era for 15-20 years when sport was heavily funded in the lead up to the Sydney Olympics. That funding has been removed and things have levelled off. Kind of like how England/GB started doing better because sport was heavily funded in the lead up to London 2012. The fruits of that investment last for a while afterwards.

"It's all very well being good at sports which are only played by a handful of countries - at anything truly international Australia are shit"

What sports exactly are you referring to? The international sports we play are the same as yours. The most played sports in Australia are as follows:

Australian Football: Not international
Cricket: 5 World Cups, 3 more than any other nation
Rugby League: 11 World Cups, 8 more than any other nation
Rugby Union: 2 World Cups, one behind NZ
Football: 1 Asian Cup

So I can only imagine you're referring to our football team being shit, which is fair enough, though the sport as a serious consideration here is in its infancy.

For anyone at a loose end later a select Lashings XI are playing a tug match at Eversholt CC (Beds) starts @ 16.00hrs.
Funnily enough it ties in with my lad having a dental appointment...

Truth is no one here watches that. Its been dumped to a third channel of the network. Primarily made for the overseas market. They can have it! Home and Away as well. All garbage.

Neighbours used to be the shit. But then it went massively downhill and has been bumped down to a really trashy channel in the UK now. Shame.

de Villiers has scored 88 off 43 balls on his debut for Middx. Once Morgan gets back we might have a terrific middle order.

Struth! You been watching too much Home and Away.

In all seriousness now I'm not a raving pissed idiot, let's have the Ashes. Will be a cracker of a series.
May the best team over 5 tests win.
If England manage to find a decent opener, I reckon you lot could be in for a thrashing. The only way it will be a tight series is if England cannot find at least one decent opener (and I think Roy will do well in Test cricket with an aggressive approach) and if they fuck up with persisting with Root at 3. So really England's Ashes to lose IMO.

You guys have Starc and Smith, two truly world class performers. Apart from that, Lyon isn't bad, but the rest are somewhat meh.

England on the other hand have the better all-round pace attack with Archer's addition and Stokes as a 4th seamer. Obviously Jimmy Anderson in home conditions is unplayable at times.

So yeah, if England are up for it, which they ought to be, I can see a 3-1.

One of my favourite players was Basil D'olivera a great all rounder in my opinion.
His son Damion was not quite international class but still a good county player.
Damion's son Brett is now playing county cricket making three generations.
Does this qualify me for the old fart league as I have seen all three play spanning 60 years plus.

My wife records and watches home and away religiously. Like most soaps it is garbage but there are some gorgeous birds on there - especially Robbo’s Mrs but don’t know her name

I think that does down the Aussies, plus overeggs the England team. It will be closer than that.

The bowling attack is at least on par. Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood are all class operators and Lyon is above any of the spinners we will play. England bowlers are also nursing a lot of injuries currently. What it will come down to is which batting unit is more consistent, neither team has a settled line up, but as an England fan it's hard to have faith given our performances in the last few years.

Appreciate the comment, and very true.
Our stock bowling line up is as good as any in the world. Our issue will be an allrounder, and there you have the advantage.
Batting wise again very even. Smith is a huge in for us as is, dare I say it, Warner. We look so much stronger with Warner, Harris, Usman, Smith and Head. Add the allrounder and Paine then the bowlers, it should be strong. its the number 6 that needs to be right for us. Probably Labuschagne .
