Just read Alex Hales’ management company statement and I’m slightly confused! Reading between the lines I came to the conclusion that the ECB have decided to ban him having previously know about the incident last year and previously taken action against him. Is he being banned for a second time on the basis that it’s now in the public domain that he tested positive last year?

His management company said in a statement it is "hugely disappointed at the treatment" of Hales for an incident that happened last year.

It said the ECB "insisted on Alex taking certain rehabilitation measures following his suspension" and that, "at every stage, Alex fulfilled his obligations and both he and his representatives were given assurances that any suspension - again under the ECB's guidelines - could not affect his selection for the World Cup".

The statement added: "The fact all those assurances seem to have been rendered meaningless has understandably left Alex devastated. He will take time to reflect on both his actions and the subsequent decisions, but will receive the support from his team he deserves."

I thought the only previous action they took against Hales was when he was suspended and fined for that fight outside the nightclub?

Regardless, the ECB's done the right thing by sending the message that drug taking won't be tolerated.

Sounds to me like someone was about to leak the news on Hales. It reads like the ECB gave him a very minor suspension on the quiet last year, but now this comes out into the open and they stand open to accusations of hushing it up and maybe even condoning drug taking they've decided they have to revisit this and get him out of the team.

But yes, all a bit hazy at the moment, some are saying this isn't the first time he's failed a test(?) and there's the Stokes incident he was caught up in as well. Hard to feel much sympathy for him, he's burning through chance after chance.

I read about this ages ago (ish) IIRC Hales has been serving this ban for a couple of weeks or so, it's an automatic ban received from his county or something, it's only the media getting hold of it that's made the ECB act. I'm not sure there's a whistleblower as such, although he did come out and say he'd made himself unavailable for personal reasons, I guess in the hope that it went away but it was never a secret so fat chance there. As far as I remember, his ban (21 days) ends this week and he'd be available for Fridays ODI.

Hales is getting what he deserves, seen numerous stories and snapchat stuff about him over the years. 30 years of age and hasn't once learnt.

Australian cricketer Alex Hepburn has been sent to jail for 5 years for rape. That will be poetic justice. For the next 5 years, an Aussie cricketer will be the victim of ball tampering.

I play in the Thames Valley League and played against Hales around 12 maybe more years ago.

He was clearly a very talented and a superior batsman to the rest of us that day, while batting he turned his pads and left his legs bare... and said "I'm too good for you all I don't need pads"

He was an absolute **** and seems like nothing has really changed.

Japes! James Faulkner posted this on Twitter

For some reason he didn't consider that some people might not get the joke and actually think that he was coming out. He's since clarified it with another tweet, but mate, a couple of the comments to both this and the second tweet had chuckling.

He is a character. Pity his form has been so crap!

I have not in any way trivialised his offence...simply connected a cricketing incident regarding Australians (of which he is one) with possible recriminations from his fellow prison inmates ...chill out .(y)

nice bud, are you playing in the 1's?
Mainly the 2s, I don't care enough/not good enough to play for the 1s. We've got quite a few youths coming through that they play in the 1s that are quite good.

I play for the 1s but sometimes I honestly wish I wasn't, we're in division 1 so its competitive and I've got a little one on the way very soon and juggling work as well as cricket every Saturday and then the whole social post match is going to go down a treat with the wife this season!
