Bayliss: "There's a lot of cricket to be played between now and the Ashes."

If one test against the West Indies and a 4 day test match against Ireland is a 'lot of cricket' then yeah.

We seriously need a strong captain and it is not Root. I'd be tempted to bring in Morgan so he can be captain. He can replace pretty much any of the top 6 batting order and not weaken it and has proved to be a great captain.

Our team is made up of allrounders either bowlers who can bat or wicketkeepers who can bat. We have barely any specialist batsmen. Everyone is batting 1 or 2 places higher than they should be.

I don't follow county cricket much as it is difficult overseas but there must be better batsmen for our top 6 plsitions out there surely.

I would be more than happy if Hales, Roy and Morgan came into the test side. We've given so many chances to technically inferior players why not put faith in ones that you know have a bit about them, even is it's been shown mostly in another form of the game.
They've got fight in them too which is something we are seriously lacking.

In place of whom?

Burns hasn't done badly since he's come in, so you can't have Roy AND Hales. Plus we are lacking sheer bloody minded defence at the top of the order; a la Cook or Boycott. Neither Roy nor Hales is going to inspire our #3 to take his time about padding up when they go out to bat!

Morgan's been tried before and failed. Does he replace Buttler, who was our best batter in the summer? Bairstow? Root? Stokes?

i’d love to see Morgan back in. and Roy, as I’ve mentioned before. i think once the world cup is out of the way, i’d like to see Morgan back in, and as captain.

Its a problem alright Arnold. And it started with Strauss leaving. You'd think a bit of batting discipline would be a straight forward ask....not so.

I have a feeling that after the World Cup Morgan will definitely be playing Test Cricket. For Ireland.

Absolutely perplexes me that the English county divisions are producing fuck all in terms of international test standard cricketers, but the ECB’s priority is some bullshit revenue grabbing 100 ball game

Because the ECB don't care about the county game. The total sum of home County Championship days on the weekend next season for Middlesex is 5. We're the lucky ones. Worcestershire has 3 days at home during the weekend, Surrey 2 and Essex 1. And they wonder why attendances for CC games are a struggle. Add to that the CC is stuffed into bowler-friendly April and September so August can be freed up for T20 it's no wonder the CC and the development of Test players are dying on their arses.

I see Tim Paine has more or less admitted Smith and the poisonous **** known as Warner will be in the Ashes squad.

We've given about seven trillion chances to batsmen in the last 5 years or so. We are unearthing no gems at all.

I can only repeat myself, the standards of red ball cricket are awful across the globe. It's not just us with the problem. It wont change though when the money is in other formats. We can select the likes of Roy or whoever the next flavour of the month will be, we'll see some cameo innings in amongst the many failures, and the test team will continue to pick up the odd win in amongst looking absolutely shite.
Ab- So-Bloody-Lutely. We Just beat Sri Lanka (yes I know) for our first test series in ages. Now i know we had our guts ripped out in South Africa however I think we have finally found 2 players. Travis Head has been fantastic all summer, our leading run scorer and averaged over 55 for the 6 tests here and Curtis Patterson, who just "looks" like a test player. Has somewhat of a "Steve Waugh" loom about him.

I now feel there is no doubt Steve Smith and dare i say it Dave Warner will be selected for the ashes. I really wont be a fan of the second and I hope I'm proved wrong but I think it will happen. Line up could look something like this:
Warner
Harris/Burns?
Khawaja
Smith
Head
Patterson
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood

Lets see what happens but i think it could be a competitive line up.

If Warner walks off whenever he gets a bit of sledging, I can't see him lasting long in front of the Hollies Stand.

Hmm; you're including bowlers.

That could make things a bit tricky ...

Don't take this from us. The chance to sledge Warner is going to be the thing that unifies England and its people following Brexit.
Totally agree. Thats why he should not be there.
A good mate of mine grew up with a former Australian coach. (Iknow him too although havent seen him in years) Lets just say Boof could not stand Warner and his attitude. If it was up to Lehmann he would not have been selected such was his attitude. It was Cricket Australia that had the final say. I still dont think its a monty Warner is selected.

Our batting needs serious improvement before the Ashes. Bayliss fielded one day players in both tests and they played that way. They've forgotten how to bat for long periods. I blame the IPL and big bash money spinners for that.
