Is there a more solid back 8 out there?

It's almost unfair having 3 centre halfs like that on the same pitch

Thanks to Think Tank for providing the light entertainment this morning.

Be interesting to see if Poch does fiddle, perhaps if the opposition has a quick forward playing inside left or right- like Hazard- then I could see a case for playing Sanchez left or right to help snuff out the threat.

Only changes from today, Aurier and Dembele, then surely Son starts too.

Don't think we should chase the game too hard either, if we do get done on the counter we'll be up against it in the group- a nil nil wouldn't be the end of the world.

Yesterday was first time really made me think about dembele.Well that's not totally true,I've often thought he spends too much time on the ball generally without to much end product.Yes as far as keeping the ball and controlling the game he's probably our best player. But I think yesterday showed sissoko caused much more penetration from CM if only he had a first touch.I guess it's 2 different styles. But it's just given me more doubt about dembele.I think something is going on with winks fitness wise.Maybe dembele is more useful in CL and the big EPL games. And lesser EPL games we need a more direct approach.

Ti be fair to dembele though that was a different formation yesterday to the one he normally plays in. He is usually part if s double pivot but sissoko and eriksen played in front of dier yesterday in more of a diamond, so would have more freedom to attack

With Guerrero and Schmelzer both our their LB spot looks to be a big weakness, Could be something for Son to exploit making those inside right runs.

As good as Dortmund are, and have been for the last 7 years, with their list of injuries and loss of Dembele there's no reason at all we can't beat them.

I know you guys want to play with your new toy but there's no way we are going to play one of the best strikers in Europe as a no10 to accommodate Llorente. Nor will we be going 2 upfront.

We played 4141 today.
Hey TT, I saw you mention this a couple of times in the match thread, and again now and I'm still confused. If you think that was the formation, who was playing where? It was obvious to me that we had 3 at the back with wing backs well up the pitch, dier holding then fairly fluid in front of that with sissoko, eriksen and Alli behind Kane.

I would be shocked if it was anything other than this. Maybe poch will want serge to have an easier debut and stick with trips, but I fear that would be a big mistake. I really like the look of this team.

Took several 'snapshots' throughout the first half, especially, and that's what we were playing for me (intentionally or not, who knows). It was a complete mess so not surprising there are a few takes on what it was.

I think it's fair to say that we're going to be slightly better this time around. As for this game, I would go:

Lloris
Alderweireld - Sanchez - Vertonghen
Aurier - Dier - Dembele - Davies
Eriksen
Kane - Son/Llorente
Hope that's what we see and Poch doesn't play "safe" with Trips as RB. Son to start alongside Kane. Trips, Llorente, Winks as subs.

So who was the 4th defender? Dier was generally further back than our wingbacks, but certainly not in defence.

Would have to go back and grab screen shots. Iirc though, tripps wasn't up front too much yesterday. Dier was the first '1'.
