Sanchez can play anywhere on the 2/3, His ability to recover gives him scope. Sticking Toby in that position gives us great scope for distribution from the middle of the park and gives us range, right in there, that we normally have. Just have him sit there in front of Sanchez and Verts.

I think it will help us stabilise at Wembley in this particular game.

Toby is also extremely savvy and disciplined, positionally. There's no reason to not be able to stretch Dortmund with our FBs and FL/FR.and still have stability centrally back there between sanchez, toby and verts.
I think playing Toby in the middle of the park would limit his time on the ball and would hurt his ability to play his diagnals that he is so good at.
Sanchez can play the RCB role, but at the moment I'd like for him to stay strictly in his central defensive destroyer role, so he can focus on keeping simple in posession and being a physical beast dominating in the air and being the last defender.

It's the opposite. And he would have more range to pass.

If we were away I'd agree with you in keeping Sanchez fixed centrally (Aubameyang is no joke). I think that would be a good balanced form to play at Wembley though, and have us try and make something of home advantage.

I certainly wouldn't play Dier in this game; I think he's stunk the joint out so far this season.

Lloris
Alderweireld - Sanchez - Vertonghen
Aurier - Dier - Dembele - Davies
Eriksen - Son
Kane

Subs: Vorm, Trippier, Walker-Peters, Sissoko, Winks, Foyth/Oakley-Booth/Edwards, Llorente
Agree with the players but would like to continue with today's 3 in midfield, so Eriksen in a 3 with Dier and Dembele with Son in behind Kane.

Would definitely start Llorente for this game. Even though he hasn't played for us yet, I think his savvy and CL experience will be useful. Having Kane play off him would also free Harry to cause Dortmund even more problems.

If Sissoko is fit I'd start him in midfield with Dembele and Dier. His driving runs on a big pitch like Wembley would make alot of space for Eriksen and Son. Plus we'd dominate the middle of the pitch if Dortmund play Castro, Gotze, and Sahin in there.

Pretty harsh dropping Sanchez after his performance today. But until Rose is back, I think we're better off playing 4 at the back at Wembley.

I'd go for something like this.
Lloris

--------------Aurier-------Toby--------Verts---------Davies-----------

Dier

Sissoko--------------Dembele

Eriksen------------------------------------------Son

---
Kane

I agree Toby would have more options centrally in theory but, he'd also wouldnt have the favourable angles that he can more easily get to hit his clever long diagnals then when he gets from wide areas. Also Alderwiereld will be pressed harder centrally giving him less time to pick out his passing and he would be recieving some passing facing his own goal, which is something he might not be comfortably with, limiting his game greatly.
I understand you arent the biggest CM Dier fan and I agree with you I much prefer him as a defender (though I think he's been sloppy in this role of late as well), but he was fantastic against Everton and unless if Wayama was fit, it'd be absurd not to play Eric in a similar role Wednesday.

I think the 'Wembley benefits Sissoko' argument died with his painful performance against Leverkusen last year.

To be fair he was shunted out to the wing, which everyone and their dog can see is not his best position. At Toulouse and Newcastle he played his best in a central role, which is why he was highly rated at the time. He's not skilful enough to be a winger, but as shown today he can be very effective when played in the middle of the park.

Come on; he hits the same diagonal - as good as it is - all the time. He's got a lot more in his locker. We should utilise it.

FWIW I wouldn't play Dier in defense, either.

Exactly he plays the same ball from the same area of the pitch and if he's put in a different postion on the pitch he may not have the same effectiveness or comfort level to play the same expansive way as he does from CB. And yes Toby has a lot in his locker technically and tactically, and he would make a class DM, but that doesnt mean he should be thrown into the position against Dortmund one of the top pressing sides in Europe.

He can deal with it. I trust him.

LOL the last two times we played Dortmund these were the teams:

At WHL:

Lloris
Trippier - Alderweireld - Wimmer - Davies
Dier - Mason
Lamela - Dele - Chadli
Son
At Dortmund (seriously though, LO fucking L):

Lloris
Trippier - Alderweireld - Wimmer - Davies
Carroll - Mason
Onomah - Eriksen - Chadli
Son
I think it's fair to say that we're going to be slightly better this time around. As for this game, I would go:

Lloris
Alderweireld - Sanchez - Vertonghen
Aurier - Dier - Dembele - Davies
Eriksen
Kane - Son/Llorente
