Do you understand how disciplined players have to be to fill-in at wing-back? It's probably the most difficult, hard-working position on the pitch. To start a game playing wing backs at this stage of the season is a no-go for me. It will take a good pre-season to maximise the formation's impact. Lennon probably isn't my first choiice either! If you HAD to play wing-backs, Chimbonda, unfortunately, is the only option.

i agree but does Ramos benfit from our fullbacks in last two games ( specially PSV ) ?

we did nothing to stop their wingers, i think using 3CBs good with wingers could be better option to play against them. The most important now to use the best players available and i think Chimbonda should be dropped.

Once we moved to 3 CBs onight, they should have grabbed another couple of goals. Before then we gifted them a goal but remained largely comfortable.

Never know with Wendy, though. He loves bringing off the FB for a midfielder so it could happen.

I think we should put out our strongest available X1 against West ham with the exception of ledley.

No resting or saving anybody else, we need to find some rhythm again.

A good result on Sunday could be the catalyst we need to go to Eindhoven and do the job where I think the game will suit us much better than last night. JJ is a big blow though, we really needed a forward running midfield player for the 2nd leg.

However I feel confident that we can still get through this tie.

You want to play all three strikers and Lennon away to PSV?

3-5-2

lool you're always against it Mr. SS57 :)

but look here pls:

1) While Hutton cup tied, and no Bale. There are no good fullbacks can do well against top team. Let alone it would away game next time.

2) whatever if Jenas is available or not, we don't have enough quality to play only 2 CM against PSV who used to play 4/3/3 ( smilar system to 4/5/1 ) , so they can close there own area and use their more talented players in both flanks to hit us in counter attack, it was clear yesterday. so, it would be better to use 5 players too in the middle in order to make a complete 'Mid' .. using 3 of Zokora, Boateng, Huddlestone, Tainio, O'Hara or even Jenas if available would give us advatege in the middle, as three middle men, i trust them to do better than their 3 mid. players

3) so, we have King, Woodgate .. Dawson looked better played with them. With these three CBs, i think we could have better back line to play against PSV than what we have last time. specially, we will have better Middle players in 3 players this time. With Lennon and Gilberto as WB and 3 CBs behind them, there are nothing to worry about, you know that PSV are using only two wingers plus 1 striker. it would be 4 Spurs men against 3 even if Lennon coming too late to help the Def.

4) using 5 in the mid. line, plus two strikers like Keane & Berbatov, I'm sure we will make it very difficult for them. If you think we will allow them to score, but we could also score. 2-1, 3-2, 4-3 always good for us.

5) Don't compare 3/5/2 during Hoddle era to this one, in that time, we don't have good CBs, and not enough quality in CM ( only Davies & Anderton ) plus decent strikers. Now we have very better squad and already we used this system under Ramos. Can you remember when Gus Poyet said that we are always doing better when we changed the system to 3/5/2 and it is very possible to use it more in the future ? Football is about to use the best formation for you're available players against the system which used by your opponent. 4/4/2 isn't the only way in the world to go, if that case, we we didn't last time. Can you remember Huddlestone subs in CC final ? I hope yes

cheers

Name one top side that plays a 3-5-2 as a starting line-up.

It's one of those formations that makes perfect sense on paper (and probably works a treat on FM) but never quite pans out at the highest level. Which is why no-one who's actually any good plays it any more. Caparros, Juande's predecessor at Sevilla, used it; the first thing Juande did was switch to a 4-4-2.

Your CBs will either get cramped together along the width of the box and be vulnerable to the opposition wide players getting in behind them, or spread too thinly. It's horribly open to balls over the top, and absolutely reliant on top-class wing-backs who will bomb up and down all game. Lennon is not a wing-back.

As an occasional tactical switch, as against the Spammers, fine. Otherwise, a big thumbs-down.

But I don't think top four clubs have some problems likes us, the are always doing better with 2 CM if they want, and when they are using 4/5/1, the can do with 'alone' striker system.

We still didn't give it a worth try with these type of players.

anyway, I couldn't understand the dimensions of your words and i could be proved wrong at one day, but can you give me you're starting XI for PSV ?

I don't mean the top four. Nor am I restricting it to the EPL.

My line-up? Assuming that Jenas recovers, the same as last night, in a 4-4-2.
