I think Martin Jol is under too much pressure to try something new tonight, I'd be shocked if we didn't have the usual people. Zoko and JJ in midfield, Malbranque wing and possibly Lennon from the start.

Berbi will play, prob alongside Keano. I'd play Justin Edinburgh at left back, he's been dependable so far this year

That's the midfield I would quite like to see but it is very attacking. Would require JJ to do alot of defensive work. Could be the sort of thinking that saves Jol his job though.

JJ performed a DM role for England B last season and it was widely regarded as one of his best performances. His work off the ball always goes unnoticed and he has this pressure surrounding him that he's the only one who MUST get forward. It's becoming clear that he's not that sorta player. So tell him to sit, have someone doing the bursting into the box and perhaps... perhaps we could get the best out of Jenas.

But then again, straws and clutching springs to mind.

I've always thought that JJ would be at his best if we put a decent defensive midfielder alongside him and properly allowed him to get forwards.

But as we don't have a decent defensive midfielder he has to do alot of defensive work and I think he actually does it pretty well. His one poor point is that his distribution has been pretty woeful this season. I do think though that if we put him alongside Steed and, as you said, just tell him to sit then we could be ok.

Let's put it this way he's a much better defensive midfielder than Huddlestone, who can't run, and Zokora who has the positional sense of a blind daddy long legs.

Won't happen though. JJ and Zokora in the middle and they'll be ripped apart again if Gadaffi have any good midfielders.

i'd go for:
R.Cerny
P. Chimbonda M.Dawson Y.Kaboul A.Ekotto
A.Lennon J.Jenas T.Huddlestone S.Malbranque
R.Keane D.Berbatov

i think we cannot play taraabt simply because if we underestimate getafe they will simply murder us.
they are very talented and dangerous, despite their position, and having someone like taraabt who despite probably creating a lot is prone to giving away the ball through trying too much, will mean they will see too much of the ball.

i expect them to be pretty efficient at keeping the ball, being technical like all spanish teams, so giving away the ball cheaply and having to chase it back is the last thing we need.
by all means bring him on however if we are winning comfortably, or even chasing the game and the crowd need a lift, but i certainly wouldn't start him off

Ekotto is injured, is he not? Wasn't impressed with KPB in Cyprus, but would love to see Taabat.

i think that's wrong.

jd is a nice idea but he doesn't play well with keane, as we all know, and you would be mad to play him over keano right now with the form he is in.

agree about THudd.

re taraabt, i wrote this in another thread and will paste it:

we cannot afford to lose the crowd early on this time. this performance HAS GOT to be about giving the crowd hope and a reason to cheer

This would be my starting 11 for tonight’s game. I know its a little light on the defensive side but I’m thinking we could do with the practice before Blackburn arrive.

I know it still sounds crazy and yes we’ll probably concede a goal here or there, but the theory is we should end up scoring 8 or 9 ourselves…!!

If Jol picks Tainio wide midfield tonight then we'll all know it's time for the big man to fall on his sword. If your going to play him for god sake play him central midfield.
Jol and Hughton are starting to look like a comedy act on the sideline, though no Spurs fan is laughing.
Tonight I'd go for :-
Cerny
Chimbonda Dawson Kaboul Lee (Gardner)
Lennon Huddlestone ? Taarabt
Berbatov Keane

How sh*t are our options in midfield?
