With Vertonghen returning from a serious hamstring injury and Foyth in pretty decent form, I think it would be prudent to rotate the two for this one after Jan played against Inter. I suspect that given the nature of his injury, they'll want to carefully manage his workload over the next block of games, which do come thick and fast. Given the regularity of the games coming, we really can't afford him to get injured again as that would leave us with only two fit CBs for a demanding period.

With that in mind:

Lloris
Aurier - Foyth - Alderweireld - Davies
Dier - Sissoko
Son - Dele - Eriksen
Kane

Why do people always post with us lining up 4-2-3-1 with Son on the right?

Whenever we play a top team that plays a high line, Son plays as a striker, Kane plays as no.10, and the midfielders form some kind of diamond shape (as with Chelsea last week, recent games against Liverpool, Dortmund, City etc). It will almost certainly by the same on Sunday.

The common misconception is that the formation represents the shape when you're attacking, it doesn't it represents the shape when you are defending particularly in the middle 3rd.

Either way Son normally plays on the left when we line up like this but we interchange so much depending on the opponent and how the game is going.

It drives me nuts similiarly when people put Moura or Lamela on left as well!

Yes they all interchange but you shouldn't really be starting them designated to the left as neither are effective out there for extended periods.

Why do people always have a problem when others post who they want to see playing in what ever position they want?

Would not at all be surprised to see Foyth start given Jan has just come back from a month absence with a hammy. If he's fit enough I'm sure he'll play, but we've been bringing people back in very carefully recently, so I think Foyth will start. Rose needs minutes, but not convinced this is the game. Depends on how Davies is doing fitness wise.

That's a rather high line.

Same team v Chelsea just Jan in for Foyth. That front 4 would cause havoc against their defense.

Will he play Dele again, 3 games in 7 days.

May well be son, eriksen and lucas

Dele has to play for me. His runs are exactly what Arsenal struggle with and I think he can cause them all sorts of problems.

On a separate note it's a real shame we don't have Sanchez for this one as the pace of their front two does scare me and Toby hasn't looked too quick recently. Hopefully we don't leave ourselves open to too many balls in behind, but it is a worry for me.

As poch said, formation isn't important positioning is.

Cannot argue with this, but I suspect Poch will not risk Verts so soon after playing a very tough 90 mins after several weeks out with a hamstring. I think Foyth will partner Toby at the back for this one. Dele, Eriksen & Son have to be the AMs playing behind Kane.

I think Vertonghen should start (as long as he's feeling no ill effects).

As well as Foyth has been playing, he still should have given a penalty away against Chelsea following on from him doing so against Wolves and as a high-pressure London Derby against our fiercest rivals we need the cool head of Vertonghen at the back.

Foyth will continue to improve with game time but for me this one would be risky at this stage of his development.

I agree. I won’t be disappointed if Foyth starts as he’s been great and I’d understand with Jan only just getting back but it’s fair to say he has been quite a big risk as far as pens go. They’ll target him just like Chelsea and will be looking for it big time. If Jan is ok and trains well tomorrow he starts for me
