overpriced , he cost 8 million euros from Amiens in 18/19 , be stupid to pay figures Lyon are asking, be better off spending the money on the beer taps at the stadium
Not strictly true - that was a buyout clause set in summer 2017 when he was 20, before his breakout season. He’s now 22, and has had 2 superb seasons since then. It’s not unusual for value to spiral upwards like that in a young player - how much do you think Alli was worth 2 years after we paid £5m for him?

I seem to remember Aulas doing the same thing with Lloris, dragging it out until the last day, inviting bids from every club under the sun... silly to expect any different from him!

Was it not that Levy agreed a fee, agreed terms with Hugo then he went back an renegotiated the transfer terms after it was all apparently agreed?

Which is key, if he says he wants to come to us it puts Aulas in the position which he might aswell get it done now and get the funds to re invest

And I think this is the difference between last season and this one.

Ndombele's endgame, as with 99% of footballers, will be Barca and Real.
Coming to us from Lyon last season, if he believed the big two were interested, would have been pointless.

However, when they didn't come in for him last year he probably watched us open the stadium, push the top two for 2/3 of the season, and play in the CL final, and ended up thinking that maybe it is a big enough step up now (still assuming the big two aren't interested).

So, I suspect, this time he might push for the move with us.

I'd love to see some of you guys negoittating...chucking 60mil on the table and being surprised when they reject it. Smell the desperation a mile off and you can ALWAYS make money after a first offer.

It's only 6/7m more than we paid for Sanchez. Ndombele is much more proven and established.

I'd be surprised personally. It could well be an opening offer though. Either way, the longer we mess around, the more chance of someone else coming along

Aulas is quite publically whoring the player out to whoever bites so it doesn’t really matter how long the negotiation takes. Everyone knows he’s available. If they were that interested they would have came in and paid up already.

Right back and midfield is very weak compared to the rest of the team, so there are loads of players that will improve us. In the forward options we have a wealth of quality options and strength in depth is more important. We have to start giving clubs, agents and players deadlines. We are an attractive proposition and if players really want to join and clubs want the chance to cash in for what would likely be over market value then my guess would be that they will blink.

If not then it's not the end of the world, but we have to be prepared to move down a list as I think it's much more important to have a fit and gelled squad ready for the first game of the season.

I'm not saying we shouldn't try for the best available (players in the mould of Ndombele), but we just can't afford to leave everything to the last second with just a hope that something will come off. Liverpool, City etc have that luxury, we really don't now.

Not technically true at all, regardless of what the nutter said at the time.

The link to the quotes from Aulus at the time. Basically claiming Levy changed the goal posts throughout the whole process. His quotes doesn’t necessarily mean they’re gospel as few people would be privy to the ins and outs of the negotiation process for Lloris, but other well known figures have publicly mentioned that Levy is a nightmare to deal with e.g Sir Alex. I guess you don’t get that reputation for nothing.

When you have difficult agents trying to negotiate a deal with a chairman who’s been rumoured to have some tactics when dealing, striking a deal will be a lot tougher.

We’re now in a different situation since then, with greater ambitions. We have more pulling power when attracting players too. Let’s see if Levy and those responsible for bringing players in can get the targets Poch wants.

HE'S OUR GUY Tottenham launch club-record £60m transfer bid to beat Man Utd and City to France midfielder Tanguy Ndombele

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has launched a £60million bid to land France midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The Tottenham boss has made the Lyon midfielder his No1 target for the summer and the club will prioritise him before pursuing other deals.

Ndombele, 22, was on Manchester City’s radar before they switched their attention to Atletico Madrid’s Rodri.

Spurs will also face competition from Italian champions Juventus to land the ex-Amiens player.

According to a source at Lyon, they “believe Tottenham are serious about pursuing a deal for Ndombele this window”.

Lyon are looking for £65million for the player they bought for just £7million last summer after an initial loan.

TOP PRIORITY

They are willing to cash in for the right offer and are braced for an offer from Spurs as Poch looks to bolster his squad after reaching the Champions League final.

The Tottenham boss is looking for a long-term replacement for Moussa Dembele after his departure to Chinese side Guangzhou R&F in January.

Ndombele is the preferred choice to drive Pochettino’s midfield, with Harry Winks seen as another star of central midfield for the future.

With Ndombele as the priority for Poch, the club will attempt to secure the signatures of younger players such as Ryan Sessegnon at Fulham or Leeds’ Jack Clarke AFTER trying to land their No1 target.

Ndombele has broken into the France team and is seen as a central midfielder who can carry the ball forward.

The club are also looking at Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso but Ndombele is top of their list of targets.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed top European clubs have spoken to him about his prized asset.

He admitted last year he would prefer to strike up a deal with Juve and that Manchester United and City were also in for Ndombele, although it is Spurs who made the first moves for the player.

From the little I have seen of him in actual matches and some of the 'better' footage on youtube he looks a good player, but I don't think he's worth some of the numbers banded about as his supposed 'worth'.

& before people start yelling at me about 'going' rates etc the markets are set by those who want to get paid. Doesn't always make them right,
do you mean we should move on?

Good to see this is our priority, as it should be. Getting him would also send a message to the rest of the league that we mean business, maybe even persuade the likes of Eriksen and Toby to stay for at least one more season.

Eh? We’ve bid and are actively negotiating for the player. I was responding to someone who says if we don’t hurry up and pay up then someone else will take him. Point being if anyone else really wanted him they would have paid what Lyon apparently what by now as Aulas has been trying to start a bidding war. No one is biting though.
