Would be a bit of a statement signing considering how his stock has risen the last two years

I am eagerly waiting to hear from all those people from the last transfer window who were saying we shouldn't be signing any french players whose surnames began with N.

I want him so bad. Him and Sissoko will be like Wanyama - Dembele and potentially even better.

As usual we will have to wait until the Big Boys have finished eating at the table. If City pursue other targets I believe we have chance.

yup. agree with the statement signing too, he's on a lot of radars, will show how far we've actually come if we can get to the head of the q for once.

He really does appear to be the ultimate Poch midfielder.

Powerful, dynamic, comfortable on the ball under pressure and the eye for a forward pass.

Would be an incredible coup if we managed it.

Yup. Him and one other, more cultured, ball playing CM (Grealish or Lo Celso) and basically that's our midfield sorted. Weakest (arguably) unit of the team becomes the strongest. Would take us up a level IMO

Has anyone watched this guy regularly? Is he consistent in what he offers? The hype is big with this one so it'd be nice to hear from someone who has seen him numerous times.

My only real concern with him is consistency/focus. I don't think it's a particularly 'him' thing as it is a product of playing in the French league with elite European level teams on top and (arguably some mid/sub) Championship level teams on the bottom. The 60 million pound question is whether his skills translate to the pace of the PL. There's tons of debate to be had there and I think it's fair to question the risk even though I think he's class. Bakayoko at Chelsea is probably the example of what he'd be if those skills don't translate or he gets a big payday and is not motivated.

Hopefully, Hugo's relationship with Poch, the rise of Sissoko and our rise in the CL could be enough to persuade him. On top of our world topping facilities.

I think we could play 4231 well with Ndombele in. Him and Sissoko/Winks in a CM2 with a creative trio in front.

With Winks and somebody like Lo Celso in front, we could also be easily adaptable in terms of switching to a three man midfield with Winks the holding player.

I think its time we came to terms with the fact that we are now one of the big boys, we may not be one of the absolute richest but we are a big boy so we have to be in there fighting from the start.

I worry that in both those teams, there's a lack of genuinely incisive passing - particularly the first team

Lucas is great, but very head down - how many assists has he got in his time here? I could even say the same of Son. In fact, of all of them Kane is probably the best, but plays further forward for us than he does for England. We'd likely need to shift him further back in that scenario, to a more Sheringham type role. Frankly I think a better balance would be:

-------------- Winks
---Ndombele ----- Sissoko
----- Son --------------- Dele
-------------- Kane

It also gives an indication of the type of player we'd need to complement them.

In terms of Ndombele though, he's such a no brainer...if we can get him. As you've pointed out, they power of him and Sissoko would be incredible. We'd just need to balance it with a bit more guile

Do people really want Winks to be the "defensive midfielder"?

In the 3-man midfield lineups which I assume you are referring to, I do indeed think Winks would be the deepest player. He has played that DLP role in the past, so it doesn't surprise me. He'd need at least one physical midfielder in front of him however (Sissoko/Ndombele). That said Ndombele looks like he can play that role whilst being a better screen so if we got him I'd probably have him as the deeper CM in a 3. He looks extremely well rounded. I think he and Winks would be an interesting 2 in a 4-2-3-1. Plenty of industry and passing prowess.

I assumed we would be in the market for a specialist DM but that doesn't appear to be the case so far.
