Mauricio Pochettino led the praise for Juan Foyth after a fine Premier League debut was blighted by giving away two penalties in our 3-2 win at Wolves.

I think we can all take it easy a little because these two errors never cost us utimately, so the sting is tempered.

Tripper should have his knuckles wrapped for the 1st goal.

Great cross for our second goal, but let himself trying to nutmeg rather than clearing his lines. Maybe he needs to be dropped for one game.

The 2nd penalty was just a lack of experience, Juan should have just run strong against the player and see him off wide.

I do like the way Juan brings the ball out of defence, obviously Jan tops this skill just now, but this kid can learn as he appears to have the ability.

Vertongen can be pretty hands on with strikers but he has the face of an angel and I suspect a good awareness of the viewing angles of the ref and lino.
So Foyth is not necessarily doing much wrong, but needs to be a bit smarter in the box.
Didn't cost the game so he lives again.

We made the result and game closer than it needed to be at 3-0 the team should of closed the game off to the opposition, especially one that has been together for a few year's now that was quite careless which has been a feature of the season so far.

Foyth has the potential to be bigger than Toby. The raw talent is just indiscribable. I can't remember being this enthusiastic about a player since Kane's early appearances.

What would be the point of dropping Trippier? He made a stupid mistake in the heat of the moment, and I am sure he knows it.
Dropping him will just look like he is being punished, which will do his confidence no good at all. Although he can make the odd mistake in defence, he compensates for that IMO by his abilities going forward.

if Trippier had kicked the ball out we prob would not have conceeded, on the plus side JF learned more in the last 30 minutes then he did in the first 60, next time he will know not to dive it, and use his brain, the Kid is class, shame his team mates threw him under a bus a couple of times. His distribution was class he was i think we have one hell of a player on our hands.

He was fantastic in the WH game and unlucky on his EPL debut. He was put in a bad situation by Trippier (who should know better) for the first pen, and looked a bit 'leggy' when he gave away the second. Not surprising when you consider how little he has played. After those 2 incidents he continued to play confidently which is a massive plus. He's a Rolls Royce with the ball at his feet and will be a fabulous asset for us going forward.

He's making too many costly mistakes. It's not about 'punishment', it's about competition for places.

He made mistakes for both goals and spent time berating Winks when he could have been cutting out the ball that led to the second.

i agree, he was at fault for the City goal last week and didn't learn anything from that and has had a few more bad moment this season,
ok it was better that his first mistake was when we are 3-0 up but his complaining too Wink for the second instead of following the game just annoyed me so much.

Poch should also be praised for not making things worse for Foyth by subbing him off as a "punishment".
That would have been a massive embarrassment for him after conceding two penalties, so Poch did the right thing in bringing Sanchez on alongside rather instead of.
For me, that was quality personnel management. Mourinho would have hooked him and hung him out to dry in the press conference.

He gave away 2 penalties in one game and is given praise.

Next time a player misses 2 penalties in a game, I hope the same praise is given.

I was surprised that Poch called out Trippier and was clearly very annoyed with him regarding the first goal. I was also surprised with Lloris' comments about in-game management by the players, which is what we've been lacking. I don't know if he does talk a lot to the defence and passes messages on to the rest of the team, but as a goalkeeper he does get to spend a lot of time observing.

In football, if mistakes are creeping up to a point of costing the team, then you need to send a message. Or else what is the point of having players in a squad.

If they can see that a player is just not up to it, and they themselves can't get a run out, what's that about?

Trippier is better than Aurier, better at crossing and dead ball deliveries, and Aurier is rash at times, but if the Trippier lapses are not curbed, he needs his wings clipped, if only to keep him on his toes and guard against complacency.

What would be the point of dropping Trippier?

Because that is the stock answer to every player having a bad game or making a few errors!

I think so far this season we have had a clamour for many to be dropped....Hugo after PSV, Kane when he went 3 games without scoring in September, Moura for this last game because his form had dropped.

I think people dont understand that Poch and the rest of the coaching staff see them every day in training, we see them a couple of times a week. Im sure every week they discuss what they did well and what they did wrong. It is how they react to that that is important.

It is funny how people's general view of players ability increases with non playing. Dele was getting slagged off earlier in the year and now we cant wait for him to come back. Aurier was a scapegoat but now he is our right back saviour!

Yes I thought Trippier had a shocker on Saturday but I agree with you sometimes immediately dropping them is not the best thing to do.

Id like to see Foyth given another game quickly as well so he doesnt linger on the pens.

I don't know what he said, but we need to learn to see games out.
Under AVB, we could move the ball from side to side, partly up one wing, and back again , then up the other wing and back again with no purpose at all. But it did eat up the time.

Foyth is young and inexperienced.
He'll learn.
Arm round shoulder time
rather than punishment cell
and banishment Mauricio.
And another game soon.
Lots of games,
plenty of opportunities.
