Agree. If you're being ruthless there's lots of that type in the squad - good players but are they going to be next level or even have the potential to get to the next level.

Trippier? Davies? Dier? Lamela? Son?

For me it's Jan, Sanchez , Eriksen, Alli and Kane who are the jewels and they need significant upgrades around them.

I’d upgrade Dier and Son. I think - Dier in particular - they’re excellent players.

I’ve gone back and forth on Dier, but yesterday really showed his qualities. As a defender :cautious:

If we are ruthless in the market, we will sell son, lamela(huge lamela fan), dembele, rose(fitness concern), aurier or trippier ...Lets face the truth, Son and Lamela wont take us any further. Son for all his good goal scoring rate, he always flops when it matters most. He is inconsistent in front of goal and most importantly, his form dips in the most important moment of the season... Problem with lamela is his goalscoring rate is poor considering the position he plays in...

Try to keep toby if possible.. If we want to compete against the likes of utd, chelsea, city, madrid we need to think like them as well. Couple of seasons ago Ramos wanted to leave madrid... But somehow madrid held onto him and gave him the wage he demanded. They won la liga and consecutive cl after that. Before tomorrow I thought we should sell Toby. But I am thinking otherwise now. Real madrid didn't just become ucl winners overnight. Cr7, ramos, varane lost enough quarter finals and 2nd round matches. They know the pain of losing knockout matches. It made much more stronger. But if madrid sold ramos at that time, all those losses meant absolute zero for them. Cause ramos would have won matches for his new club. Not for madrid. We need to think like that. This team along with toby lost enough important knockout matches. We know the pain of losing. We need to keep our best players and give them another chances. Experience matters in football and I am sure if we can add more quality on top of kane, ali, eriksen, toby and jan, we will also win something. And when we will win, we will just keep winning.

Now add 2 world class players in those position. May be bale, modric, may be arturo vidal if bayern wants to sell.. Follow juv strategy of signing old players with low transfer fee. They did win couple of league title and reach ucl finals couple of times with this strategy...

Sell Toby, get Dier to play CB (primarily), upgrade midfield with two players (imo 1 pure passer and 1 box2boxer). Matuidi would have been great before he went to Juventus.

Downs mean we need to sell Son (unless he wants to go) - we need a squad, and whether or not he’s part of the first 11, he should be in that squad.

Lamela, too.

Let's just say we have £150mil to spend in the Summer, that is just 3 quality players nowadays, and that is with us being creative in the market. AM's are a looooong way off from being a priority IMO and especially if Dembele goes.

As I posted a couple of weeks back, I heard LB and a CM/2 anything else was dependant on sales. That at the time, and even more so now looks to be exactly what we are crying out for.

Yes we could improve our attacking options but if that is at the expense of some real quality in the middle, it would be nonsensical IMO.

We will surely have more when outgoings are taken into account?

I do agree with what you say about positional priorities.
£80m on Bruno Fernandez
£80m on Modric and Bale
£45 on De Ligt
£40m on left back

Say goodbye to Dembele, Toby, One-foot Lamela, Rose, Nkoudou, Llorente and Jansen.

I know this is foolish football manager style speculating but with around £130m in outgoings we could surely afford that? And wow what a difference that would make.

Completely agree. We have enough in front it's a real top quality CM match dictator that is required. Someone that can up the tempo and change our play from deep. At the moment it's Dier that is trying to do it and he doesn't have the tools to do so.

I agree that we need a CM who can dictate the game and get the ball forward better than we do at present. However, when we do get the ball into good areas we have been so wasteful this season. Our rate of chance conversion must be the poorest of any of the top 6 clubs (at a guess) and that really isn't good enough. We also need wingbacks who can deliver a ball into the box. Trippier's forward play has morphed into what Walker used to do, i.e. get in a great position, not deliver a first time ball but stop, look around and pick a safe backwards or sideways pass. Maybe KWP could do it.

Last summer i was banging the drum on matuidi. We really missed a trick by not signing matuidi only for 18m ..

You bang the drum on players even after they have moved, it's like watching someone throw shit at a wall and telling everyone 'look I was right again'

That was an impossible deal really. Matuidi wanted to go to Juve and that club has a special standing for many french players - Platini, Zidane, Henry, Trezeguet, Vieira, Pogba have all chosen to go there at varying stages of their careers.

Platini, Zidane and Trezeguet never have to buy another drink in Turin.

What are the chances we give up on Aurier? Considering he hasn't had a preseason it would be hasty because he has had flashes of a terrific player but we have been linked to a load of right backs

I was listening to the On The Continent podcast yesterday and one of the journalists (I think it was James Horncastle) was raving about Jean-Michel Seri. Says he’s the complete midfielder.

Could we get him?

We obviously need a centre back as well

I think we are missing that cup mentality we had in 2008. That cup run and win was amazing.
