to be honest. i've never rated steed. I'd go into a massive rant of why he's useless but that would be pointless.

just one point to you knob jockeys who keep bringing up that he's one of the top tacklers in the premiership. its because he's winning the ball back that he lost.

yeah great stat that.

Eek

But which is better, a monkey or a smurf?

There's only one way to find out...

I don't think he's shit, I just don't think he's good enough and besides Robbo I think he's the first position we need to upgrade.

Good player Steed, had a very good first half of the season, and when you factor in he's playing out of position, which many conveniently forget or brush aside it makes his performances even better. Now do I want a new natural LM? I sure do, but I definately want Steed to remain in our squad as it's all about strength in depth.

Some people on here seem to think only in terms of first eleven which makes them look pretty stupid.

His season is the epitome of the saying 'game of two halves' Great till early JAN. Rubbish since. Needs replacing, wouldn't get close to Man U, Arsenal, or Chelski squads

You didn't really need to say anything after "i've never rated steed". The rest was predictable. You were hardly going to provide reasoned argument. :shake:

Ha ha.

I get the impression that much of this thread was designed to goad Stoof into a response.

Glad to see he took the bait.

Let's get this straight I started this thread and I tried to be as reserved as possible in my criticism of steed but some of the trash I have read on here just frustrates me about Spurs fans. A lot of Spurs fans like players who try hard but aren't actually very good such as players like Freund. Stoof maybe Steed has been playing at 9/10 of his ability but he is the bottom half of the premiership player he has no pace his passing ability isn't very high I cannot see what spurs fans see in him.

Did you ever watch Malbranque at Fulham? He was a luxury player, playing in a 5 man midfield - scoring great goals, setting up countless scoring opportunities, and being key to their attacking play.

He not only has brought that to us, but he's developed this tough-tackling, win-the-ball-back at all costs, never-say-die attitude out of absolutely nowhere.

Go to the games and watch him drive us forward. I'll tell you for one thing, the crowd will "Steeeeeeeed" more often than they "Keano" or "Dim-i-tar Berbatov" in a game. And that's because they recognise graft with ability.

To be honest most have one or the other - and to be fair, the 36,000 would give anything to play out there. There are only a handful of players in recent years that look like they give the same passion towards it:

Freund
Brown
Tainio
Keane

Those are the sort of players I love - players that are so committed it almost hurts. So forgive me for backing players that try [and get results in Steed's case!!]. Jesus wept.

steed would be great to come off the bench and change a game but i think we need someone better to start. We desperately need to strengthen our midfield for next season. 2 or 3 quality midfield additions and a goalkeeper and i'm happy

So Stoof...... next season, left wing......Steed or Downing? Which would you prefer if there can be only one?

Ha! You've done your research on me Justin, haven't you?

It's Downing isn't it. It has to be. Steed's not a left winger, which makes all his efforts for us all the more incredible. And as for StewDo, well I have a soft spot for his left foot, don't I?

Steeeeeed plays with passion and determination and can sometimes do the wonderful which is why we all love him but if our aspirations are top 4, then I can't see a STARTING place for Steed. He wouldn't get in the Chelsea, ManUtd, Scum or Liverpool first Xi so.......

He could possibly be an excellent impact player for us coming on from the bench but as a first choice Left Mid......sadly no

I'm beginning to dislike this kind of talk.

For example, Carrick & Hargreaves wouldn't get into Liverpool's midfield, and yet United are Champions and Liverpool are miles away.

Flamini wouldn't get into Chelsea's midfield, yet Arsenal are probably better than Chelsea this year.

It's not really about individuals it's about what they bring to a team and how they complement others.

Jagielka wouldn't get in our team, but he's been awesome for Everton who are pushing for 4th.

Eh ??? You sure about that. Hargreaves is World Class and could grace any teams midfield imho so....

My overall point is that if we're aiming for top 4 next season and Champions League football then I think we should get a natural left footer in. someone with great pace and great distribution perhaps. In Short...someone better then Steed in the Left Midfield position.

Is that such a wrong thing to say ???

Don't you agree that the left midfield side is an area that needs strengthening for next seasons campaign ???
