Spurs have got a massive squad that needs trimming and i think the board & new staff know it. Nevertheless the players that are left from the cull will all be called upon to keep us challenging on all fronts, so i don't honestly think we will take this competition lightly simply because of the abundance of talent, both established and academy, that we have available will mean that we will have a more than capable team whomever we face. I certainly hope that this is the case.

I just want us playing exciting football in this competition against the likes of Lyon, Inter, Basel, Benfica, etc. I certainly enjoy it more than playing against the likes of West Brom, Aston Villa, West Ham...

Europa and the other cup comps are good for a larger squad like ours, which enables effective rotation to keep everybody on their toes, cultivates a winning mentality while keeping players' morales up through game time. This is something AVB understood, which Sherwood clearly didn't. I suspect that Poch will approach these comps with a tad more importance than the last guy.

Part of the reason the games against the English sides are boring is because we ran out of steam from playing on the Thursday in Europe.

Well if we ever make CL again we are going to need to be able to handle a midweek game w/o losing steam on the weekend. So while I agree that the EL games seemed to hurt us on the weekend, we simply have to learn to manage both.

Some agree some don't, but I'm of the opinion that the champions league gives players a better recovery than Europa league. The patterns are more forgiving.

Pure guesswork.
All this has already been sorted with the understandings
agreed with the new manager as part of his contract.
Nobody knows what Levy 'will want'.
And Pochettino's attitude will have changed
with the better quality of his new squad.
What was needed at Southampton will not be needed at Spurs.
Top half finish was probably his brief at Saints.
If he doesn't fit in with whatever Levy will want
he wouldn't have got the job.
For all we know, or the media,
Levy's main priority is top four and hang the rest.
Winning the Europa is a long shot
especially with Champions' league teams still dropping down.

I would have thought these sorts of potential differences between Levy and his coach would have been discussed in his job interview...no?

The Europa league could be taken more seriously if teams in the CL didnt drop down in to it.. it makes a mockery of it. I can see Poch using some of the young talent in European games.

I think he'll manage the squad best he can. Fisrt things first is to get the 1st team motivated, fit and 100% understanding the way he wants them playing, the rest will be a distraction until were comfortable with his style and firing on all cylinders.

Yes i agree. Especially now that the EL winner gets a spot in the CL group stages, Levy will want to win it now more than ever

Imo, I know there are those that will disagree, to think you can have a serious run at both the PL and Europa cup with a view to acheiving CL qualification without one having a detrimental affect on the other is kapoppycock.
And the arguement of 'well we'd have to play more games IF we did qualify for CL so whats the difference' is frankly laughable.
I wouldnt go so far as to say we'd be better off not in it (although we would lol) but imo we have to use it for our fringe players to improve and get match fit for when called upon and see where it takes us. Not play first 11 players tire them out and pick up injuries.
Been said before but said it again. With feeling lol.
