Hope we start Errecsonne, might mean a chance of him staying! Looking forward to potentially seeing a glimpse of what Ndombele and Lo Celso can do, and what shape we'll take with all the lovely midfielders we have now!

No he needs to settle in first, wait who's this again. (n)

We need to start this one with a win, because we need as much confidence as we can going into the second game against City away. If we drop points in this one we will already have the doubters on here and the negative pundits saying that City have a chance to open up a 4 point gap after the second game.

Much will be made of our new signings but I can't see them all being thrown into tomorrow's game at once it is not Poch's style, the only one I suspect who will play a part will be Ndombele. He never rushes new signing in. With Dele out and with Poch most probably not playing GLC I expect to see Eriksen starting so he better be up for this as he will be needed. especially with Son being unavailable.I've high hopes that Kane and Moura will hit the ground running.

Eriksen state of mind will be focused on so he really needs to be on it for these early games otherwise things could get uncomfortable for him and us early on because he will be expected to shoulder a lot of responsibility whilst the newbies are given time to integrate and settle.

What is making me really nervous is the introduction of this new rule on passing out from the back inside the box with us being away at City so early on. What I don't want to see is us thinking we have mastered it because we're not tested by Villa who I don't expect to press and we go in with this same cavalier abandon on and dithering on the pass out from the back against City.

We better have been working on this quite a bit pre season because let's face it, Lloris and some of our defenders have been known for dithering on the ball for too long when receiving a back pass and this new rule is inviting a whole heap more trouble especially against pressing teams.

I am not glad that Foyth is injured but I am glad he won't be doing this away at City,up the other end I would love to see Stones being picked for City and him trying to be a smart arse with this new rule, but I just can't see Guardiola being daft enough to play him against us.

You always want a fast start anyway, but our new home must become a fortress again. To that end, this is much more of a must win game than City away the following week. Villa will be up for the scrap and newly promoted teams tend to be dangerous early season as the euphoria of the new season carries them.

Tricky and I would be rather happy with a well fought 2-0.

I think it'll be a comfortable victory despite the injuries/suspensions. 3-1, Kane brace.

The most important thing for me (aside from the result, obviously) would be an actual good performance. I know the sample size is small, and we're still in the inevitable bedding in period, but we haven't played well at our proper home except for Huddersfield and that doesn't really count.

It would be nice to have it start to become the fortress that the old WHL was

It’s imperative we start strongly if we have any real ambitions of a title charge.

Every season we start slow and play catch up. There are no excuses for the players this season, they’ve all had a good rest and should be raring to go.

I actually don’t care about the performance, yes it would be great to play well, but 3 points is a must. Performances can come over the next few weeks.

Dropping points at home to a newly promoted team in the first game would be pretty shit.

I agree.. Almost as much as a win I want to see us earning clean sheets at home, almost as a matter of course. I am hoping that a stronger midfield helps in this regard, taking more of the pressure off defence. I think this was or became a problem for us last season (as others have said).

Hopefully, with us still having last year's players and Villa a dozen newbies, the game should be very much in our favour. We all know from our years of experience supporting Spurs, it is dangerous to be too overconfident, but for once I am feeling quite calm and am going for a reasonably comfortable win. We had a good pre - season and with the disappointment of losing the CL final, I think the lads will be fired up raring to go for a good start to the season. 2 or 3 nil.

If we can win this, and the next 37 games, we have a chance of pipping City to the title
Obviously this is a joke, but it's actually a pretty accurate description of what needs to be done to oust them. They have been remarkable over the last couple of years.

Can't wait. Been buzzing since the fixture list was released and even more so since I got tickets for the first three home games. Hoping to see GLC off the bench second half. COYS!

Looks like Sess, Foyth, Son, Davies and Dele are out

Dier, Aurier and Wanyama are available it seems.

Buzzing that we are back.

No excuses tomorrow, full preseason for the players, a proper summer break.

At least 2-0 with a brace maybe more from Kane

We should ask vdV to get his boots on for this game - he used to love playing against Villa!

You know we won our first 3 matches last season right?

And then subsequently lost 3 league games? If you think that’s starting the season strongly I’ve got news for you, it isn’t.

Why do people think they are being clever?

If you want to win the title you can’t lose three league games before the end of September. ??‍♂️

Read what you said again, you said every season we start slow and play catch up, we won our first 3 matches last season.

In what universe is that starting slow? How the hell is winning 9 points out of 9 starting slow? :ROFLMAO: Also we didn't go onto lose our next 3 matches, we won 1 and lost twice so our record was 4-0-2.

You're factually wrong, don't argue back or try and move the goalposts please, take the L and move on.
