I see no reason why not myself. I think top 4 is the bare minimum now but really we should be looking to make the top 2 a top 3. I think out of us, Arsenal, Chelsea and Utd we're in the best place to join City and Liverpool. We did finish above Liverpool last season, we have also improved in each season of the Champions League but dropped off a bit in the League. We're that close now to getting the balance right between the League and cups. I honestly believe that getting several fresh faces for Poch to working with and keeping the core of the team together will be enough to get there. Champions League final will be tough to get too again but it's not impossible, we should also be capable of a domestic cup and title push.
Third should be the minimum - I think if we are getting the amount of signings we are linked with this year, we may need that season of gelling again, who knows! Pochettino is magic remember! I think we are around 3 or 4 players off fighting for the title again. Either way, I fully agree we should be landing a trophy next season, just not the league cup please!

No reason we can't get to the serious end of the CL next season. We have the venue, the coach, the support and the experience to go toe to toe with anyone. We definitely have the motivation now too. Improvement in the squad is the missing piece.

Realistically only one club - Madrid 2014-2018 - has dominated this competition since it was created. No one else has even retained the trophy. Clubs with vastly more resources than us to win it get knocked out in the last 16/8/4 every year. Of course I want us to win it, but at a minimum I want us to be a long-term force in the competition. Those Glory, Glory nights...year in, year out.

The City game at home in the CL was electric, best since the Spurs v Inter game in the Redknapp era - I want that every year. The Europa League would just be depressing and waste of everyone's time. I think we are past that stage now but we have to keep improving as Poch always says. Come on Levy get that contactless iphone out

What kills me is that Liverpool have been 4 finals in the past 15 years or something so getting to another one is never beyond their wildest dreams whilst although we may be on the cusp of a great period in our history there’s a feeling that we squandered this golden generation of talent with nothing to show for it and that may have been a chance of a lifetime. I absolutely believe that Poch will stay at least another season or two but damnit you know how difficult it is to reach the final let alone win it? It may never come again. I hope Poch is a stronger man than I as there’s a part of me that feels it’s all but over without a complete rebuild.

Absolutely agree that the League cup is a pain in the neck for any club in Europe and we should treat it purely as a second 11 opportunity. Silverware has to be meaningful now and top 4 is definitely more important than the league cup.

In the premier league that penalty wouldn't have been given
That may be right but we weren't playing in the PL even though it was two English yeams. The point is that they had the intelligence and quick wit to see how penalties were being awarded throughout this CL competition, and we failed to learn that lesson, ironically even after we had been harshly caught out in the quarter finals with the penalty against Danny Rose. It should have been drummed into our players by Poch and our coaching or they should have realised after that harsh penalty against Rose that you don't under any circumstances leave your arm flailing out when you are in the penalty area full stop, especially when a player has a ball right in front of you and can kick it straight at you and we paid for it big time. To that end it's frustrating, because it almost always seems to be the case that we always find out these things the hard way......

At least if we managed to shoot ourselves in the foot we were on target with something....let's think positive here (y)
Not if we were aiming for the head!
Still can't believe we conceded a penalty... 20 seconds in. I mean come fucking on.
If we are going to concede a penalty, this is the best time to do it. We had 89+ minutes to rectify

Maybe next years shirts should be designed in a straitjacket style with the arms tied and belted round the back.
...
Apart from the keeper's of course.

what could have been, plenty of regrets to leave with & thats the worst feeling, especially knowing we may not be in that position again for a while unless we have a huge summer & not a standard one

Get your points but if this is true then why do we consistently : A) struggle to score against klopps Liverpool and B) regularly lose against them?

I didn't say we are better than Liverpool, I said our attacking players are not our main problem. I already said in my two replies that we lack quality elsewhere (midfield and fullbacks) and have had too many injuries for us to have consistent form in a sustainable way.

I was merely pointing out that just because they have a better set of wingers doesn't mean we somehow lack quality in the attacking area which is not even a fair comparison when we don't even often play with two true wingers. Our top scorer is an out out striker in Kane, and second highest scorer is another CF in Son. Kane is clearly levels above Mane and Salah. As for Son, he's not even far behind. In fact just in terms of stats, Son was involved in 0.54 goals per game in the league and the CL whereas Mane was involved in 0.58 goals per game................................ shows there isn't a massive difference in quality or a clear level separating them which is the common consensus. As for Lucas, what do you expect him to do? He was even behind the likes of Llorente and Lamela in the pecking order at one point. As a squad player he's good enough. Done better than any attacking player they have on the bench.

Our problems on Saturday were our forwards, not the defence or midfield who were splendid.

Everyone saying Liverpool deserved something for the season they had. Fuck right off. Fuck the fuck off.

Nobody said that when we got 80 something points and finished behind Chelsea and got beaten in the semi final of the FA Cup. Nobody was saying Spurs deserved something for their amazing season. We were just called legends.

So fuck the fuck off.

Am I right in saying Mane had tried to win a cheap penalty last season like the one on Saturday night?
For me they took advantage of the rules, fair play. But they learned from the shithousery of Madrid last season, to get the house done. It will be interesting to see how they get on next season with VAR and all that, and hopefully the rules dont change mid season, to confuse the players as to what they can do or not.

I agree. Can't blame Mane for taking advantage of Sissoko sticking his arm up like an old lollipop crossing lady who's stopping traffic and ushering kids across the road.

Hope refs and VAR get cute to Salah's gripping onto a defenders arms and shirts for leverage to help him quickly turn when he's backing into players. He did it with Vertonghen a couple of times with both arms in the penalty area and wasn't whistled for it. It was no surprise that Ramos went full Ramos on him last year.

Seeing as we're likely going to be looking for a CB and he's on the move I'd love Ramos here for a season. Even it was just to wind them pricks up
