Everyone who is insisting Son didn't dive - take your Spurs-tinted glasses off and watch the video again carefully.

Son plants his right foot. Maguire plants his foot in front of Son's right foot, making minimal or no contact. Son then decides to not take another step with his left, instead throwing it backwards and diving to exaggerate the contact. It's absolutely clear simulation and a deserved booking.

Whether the initial contact was enough to be a penalty is up for debate, but Son earned the yellow card so it's hardly surprising the ref didn't give the penalty.

Not quite that clear cut, Son was moving and McGuire "planted" his foot fight in Son's direction of movement, that could easily have been given and has been before.

I don't disagree. However, it is the inconsistency of how the penalty/ punishment is dished out that riles people. Morrison's collapse was a clear attempt at misleading, but he got the penalty. When the United teams of past would fling themselves to the floor and the referees respond by a dismissive wave of arms, the reaction would be red faces screaming at the ref and him scampering away.

If we had got the penalty it would have been soft but there was contact. Morrison just buckled at the knees and got a very soft penalty. Inconsistency of application.

I agree - whether it's a penalty or not is up for debate.

But what is totally clear is that Son dived/simulated with his left leg - which wasn't touched at all.

There isn't much between the two situations, agreed. I think Maddison was touched a bit more by Vertonghen and dived slightly less (or more convincingly) than Son - so understandable that it was given whilst Son's wasn't.

I agree Madison was better at it, they probably get more practice.

Personally I think Son has tried to buy the pen, but at the same time Maguire is clumsily going for a 50/50 in the box. I honestly think VAR would give that penalty more often than not. There is contact. A lot of people these days love to watch how players fall but IMHO if a defender is clumsy and makes contact they can have no complaints if given.

My thoughts on their pen are the same, the galling thing is that the ref gave theirs, no doubt after being told at half time he made a mistake on ours too.

I think Sky usually do a ref review (Gallagher I think), which will be interesting if he says it was incorrect or not.

It doesn't matter if Son does a triple salchow before hitting the deck. He was fouled. It's a penalty.

Maddison and Vert came together, there is absolutely no way that is a penalty. Ref gave it, not only because he was fucking dying to, and not only because he was giving lester everything all fucking game up to that point, but simply because it was the easy way out.

Still laughing as Vardy though, probably been mentioned already, but what a fucking class A ****, I was praying to every god (apart from allah) imaginable to miss that penalty and he did. ****.

Did Maguire get a touch on the ball? - No
Did Maguire make contact with Son’s foot - Yes

It sure as hell wasn’t a dive.

Son left a foot in, but it was a foul and a penalty.
If Salah's billion 'trips' in the penalty area this season have been deemed penalties then it was 100% a penalty.

This my main gripe, consistency. Maddison's is no way more of a penalty than Son's, yet it's given.

No worse than when Vardy literally places his leg onto the defender's to then go over. Son was caught, I've seen a lot of softer penalties given. I think, though, that the main gripe is the booking for diving. Wouldn't have an issue if it wasn't given and no booking for what was deemed simulation.

As I said in my post, contact and a dive are not mutually exclusive.

Maguire made minimal or no contact with Son. Is it a penalty? Maybe, maybe not.

Did Maguire make contact with Son's left leg? Definitely 100% not. Why did Son throw his left leg back? Because he dived.

WHAT?!!!
For fuck sake, when will some people be content? We have won all of our league games without Kane and Alli and for a spel without Son, and yet " we were poor", "we will get our arses kicked".

May I suggest you unpleasable lot go off to support Man City. They always play well, get top talent, have money to burn and a terrific reknowned manager. Must be a perpetual orgasm supporting them.

Me, I'm sticking to being third having spent fuck all for over a year and beating teams that for some magical reason don't deserve to be beaten by us.

Were did I criticise the club for not spending any money or winning the game?

It was a poor performance, we were to open and allowed Leicester way too many opportunities to score. Better clubs wouldn’t be so poor at finishing. The 3-1 scoreline wasn’t reflective of the performance, likewise our 1 nil defeat against Man U didn’t reflect our performance. Regardless of whether we win, lose or draw... the performance isn’t free from criticism or on a plus side praise (eg lost against Man U but played really well).

You really think if we’re open against Man C like Chelsea were yesterday and like we were against Leicester that we wouldn’t get punished? But in your mind we won so we can’t analyse the performance...

Anyone got a vid of Sons "dive" ? I really wish refs would get more shit for these sort of shocking choices.
There was contact but Son made it easy for the ref to "make an example" of him by the way he went down. I don't think it was an overly "shocking" choice not to give a penalty - it certainly wasn't as clear as Harry getting taken clean out against Burnley, for example. It was made to look a poorer decision by the fact that the "foul" that gave Leicester a penalty was very similar indeed.

Just rewatching the game and in the clear light of day with a calm head, Maddison clearly dives. Still can't work out what Oliver was up to.

Now in. No refs union here.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: Incorrect decision.

DERMOT SAYS: I thought it was a penalty - it's certainly not simulation, is it? There is so much contact that even if you say that he initiated it, it would be very difficult. I think the expected decision there for everyone was a penalty.

Later on, it would be easy to justify. When James Maddison was given a penalty, for me, you either give both as penalties or both not and that's where the imbalance was for me.

He also says the Maddison one was less of a foul than Son's later on in the article.

I posted it earlier

This was the half time analysis in the sky studio

Never mentioned Chilwell clearly hugging Son, then pushing him, causing him to be off balance when he tried to turn for the ball. Then herman munster clearly pointing to the ball like he played it when he was fucking miles away is an omission of guilt.

Just watched it again and Lloris only actually made 2 decent saves. The penalty and the Barnes chance. Everything else was wide or pretty much a standard save.
