Roots of the problem
Tottenham fans have yet more to worry about after they discovered that the campaign to drive racism out of football has swept them into the debate, calling into question their roots as a club who attract fans from the Jewish community.
The cry of “Oi, Yid” from the stands of White Hart Lane has been regarded as a term of affection for decades, but it steers a course perilously close to the limits of the race laws and the sensitivities of minority groups, even though an estimated 40 per cent of Tottenham fans are of Jewish origin and Joe Lewis, the business power behind the throne at the club, is a Jew.
A panel comprising Tottenham fans and members of the Jewish community will be brought together next week by the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust and Maccabi GB, a Jewish sports organisation, for talks in London, but whether years of tradition can be wiped out by one meeting remains to be seen.

I find it hard to believe they think 40% of Spurs Supporters are Jewish.
That would mean an average home game of 36,000 would possibly contain over 14,000 Jewish supporters.

According to the 2001 census there were 150k Jewish people living in London.

Not that it bloody matters a jot anyway. claptrap.

And on a Saturday as well?! Oi vey!

To be perfectly frank, stewards have been trying to get the crowd to sit down since Hillsborough (some 18 years ago).

If there's a ruling that "we're not allowed to say Yid" - is it going to make a blind bit of difference? Do you really see it being enforced?

I don't. Otherwise I would have been sitting down for the last 3 games I went to - when I reckon I spent a collective 5 minutes not standing.

(And that was for a pre-match shit).

Easy to sum up - you sing it at Spurs fans, we sing it as Spurs fans. It's a nickname and a term of endearment which has redefined itself into it's recognisable modern use and many people today probably don't even know the origins of the word, yet use it anyway - proves the point.

Great point RSS.

I wonder if this has ever actually come from complaints from within the Jewish community or if it is in fact the usual PC worriers...

AFAIAC we have claimed yid now as our own just as the black (afro-american's ) did with the N word. and neither are used as much now as they were 70's/80's

if we are stopped from singing it, then all the power in the word goes back to the racists

but this subject is getting boring now

Where exactly is this coming from Zionists?

And nice of you to hide your anti-semitism behind zionism and even conflicting the two terms to try and hide your shameful hatred. A zionist is someone who is pro-Israel (not even related to the zionists).

And where does it say the issue is being pressurised by zionists (thought I'd guess you mean Jews, but it's apparent your anti-semitism is so latent that you even conflict the terms, thus rendering your post completely ignorant and ridiciulously retarded)?

Don't you know when to give it a rest?

lol, at you muppets
