Too right, some people can only sit and those selfish people that (wrongly) think you can only support your team by standing are forcing others to do the same, when they've paid their money for a seat.

If people bought a seat in the Park Lane to use as a seat they’re in for a rude awakening.
Yeah I can't see this ending well...I sa at least 2 people get chucked out of Paxton against Palace for refusing to sit down.
The second guy had a good point, why were the South stand allowed to stand with no-one getting warned/ejected?

You either enforce it everywhere (and good luck with that) or you don't enforce it.

What was odd is the two blokes who were thrown out was during the first half, then that was it, they didn't warn anyone else, or throw anyone else out all match.

While I agree to a certain extent, there were certain areas in the old ground that have always been mostly standing (park lane lower, shelf side etc). If you consciously buy a ticket in the south stand at the new ground and expect people to sit down, then you are going to be disappointed. If you want to sit, there are plenty of other areas where you can do that.
I am a militant stander, and will do in the right area, but no way would I buy a ticket in the west stand and just stand up the whole match, its horses for courses.
The South Stand is supposed to be our iconic wall of noise, why people want to be in the middle of it and not join in is beyond me. If the only noise coming from that is moaners constantly telling people to sit down, then I give up.
You just cant win these days, if you stand and sing you are selfish, if everyone sits down and keeps quiet, then our support is crap (and yes i do think sitting and singing are mutually exclusive or at least connected).

I’ve just had a quick look at the ‘fan pic’ and not everyone is standing in the south.
The lower safe standing bit yes , but beyond that plenty sitting, including myself.
Old Park lane Upper didn’t stand so still don’t see why it should be any different.
This evening may be interesting!

It's health and safety though isn't it. They have to be seen to be trying to do something or else the authorities will close the stand down, like they've been threatening to do with the Stretford end for years. The new stadium attracts publicity. Hopefully it'll all blow over in a few months. But yes, I agree, you're incredibly naive if you thought you'd be sitting down in that stand.

I assume you comments are meant to create a reaction aka Talkshite. You won if that was the case.

If you are west stand agreed. I would hate for their bovril to be knocked over. Elsewhere as the excitement builds you will get wave effect standing. If you are in the North and east stands next to the away support we need to out sing them. And as been said in Dougals response if you expected to sit in the South stand and not have your view obstructed by loyal supporters standing and singing then you are going to regret your choice.

You cannot make noise, sing and have a roaring atmosphere by sitting on your arse. We are asked to stand in church and at the proms to project the sound.

It will be interesting to see how many City fans are forced to sit down.

I realise that the club need to be seen to be doing something, but it certainly doesn't help if our own fans are constantly moaning to the stewards to get people to sit down, why people just cannot accept how some like to stand and some like to sit and don't go to the right areas, I just don't know.

The bottom section of the Park Lane has the safe standing barriers, for the purpose of "safe standing".

Higher up then I say it's fair play, sit down. It's bloody steep, there's no barriers, and it only takes one drunken stumble/trip for some serious harm to happen. Atmosphere fine, but its a bit of common sense really.

I know you southerners aren't great at that... :sneaky::whistle::coffee:

Bullshit.

Maybe your larynx stop functioning when you sit down, and if so you need to get that seen to.

Mine work fine standing or sitting with no discernible difference in decibel level...

Part of the problem is that the club made that section so small. There's pretty clearly a lot more than 5,000 people who want to stand. But many of them either can't get tickets in that section, or want to continue standing where the traditionally have at the southern end of the Shelf. If the number of tickets in unofficial standing areas with the rails roughly matched the number of people who wanted to stand you'd see a lot less conflict going on elsewhere.

I understand they probably can't put them into the steeper bits of the South retrospectively, but if you put rails in the southern-most block of the East Lower and the block in the North Lower directly adjacent to the away fans I think it'd be a substantial improvement.

The made the section as big as they were allowed. And were probably optimistic that we'll ever have standing allowed at big grounds again. This isn't a case of the club being at fault for whatever reason... there are very specific laws, in this country and throughout the world, regarding all seater stadiums, which could easily be enforced at anytime; Informed by the Taylor report, and enforced to prevent disasters like Hillsbrough etc again. And touch wood there have been no problems in the 25 years or so of all seater big stadiums.

Unless you drop down to the lower leagues and smaller grounds, terraces and standing are a thing of the past.

As long as it's officially still a seated area I don't think there's a limit to its size? The whole problem is that standing very clearly isn't a thing of the past. The question is whether you have it in designated areas, with appropriate safety measures, and no disruption to those who'd rather sit. Or whether you have it develop ad hoc and inconvienience people who can't or won't stand and weren't aware it'd happen if they booked. 80s style terraces are gone, but safe standing is the future.

I am dubious as to health and safety is a legitimate reason against standing in the South lower as we have barriers in place for safe standing, I don't doubt they'll use it but I believe it can be resisted. That said the rules are what they are so I guess they don't need valid intelligent reasons to stop us standing however that article said fans refusing to sit down will be banned which presupposes that someone will ask me to, if they don't I'm not refusing am I? Against Palace everyone was asking their new neighbours about standing and it soon became clear that everyone there was there because it was the standing section(eventually) so I don't see any problems with complaints down there. Hopefully we will sort brexit out soon so parliament can discuss other things and maybe the sports minister can move on safe standing in partnership with the FA and Premier league.
