My surprise when consolidating this is that Toby has only been voted MOTM one time this season by this forum

THAT's the surprise? Not one mention of Vertonghen at all it's an utter grace and further proves my long-standing point. He is the most under-appreciated, under-estimated player in the squad. That we take him for granted goes to show what a deluded fanbase we've got.

What an idiotic comment. It has been patently evident that Vertonghen has been highly rated on here.
What you seem to be missing, in your little hissy fit, is that MOTM voting is based on views on who was the most influential in any given match. Verts has been solid and has played extremely well for the majority of the season, he just hasn't stood out as the most influential player in many of those games, whereas others have. That is more a testament to our dominance in games rather than him being undervalued.

If you doubt how the fans here feel about his value, pop over to the Spurs v WBA match thread, just after he had to be taken off. Very few weren't gutted and no one felt it was a good thing.

You must have missed the comments across the board extolling him and Toby as the best CB pairing in the EPL too.

Jesus...

Thanks for this @Bulletspur, really interesting.

I wonder reading some of the observations/tantrums made regarding surprise at certain players lack of MOTM awards will now skew subsequent votes!

Thats a very, very good point. This is why I would rather have the ratings thread be up straight away so fans can vote in the heat of the moment with their gut instincts, as oppose to waiting for when the adrenalin rush is over, then they will find every excuse to shoe horn in their favourite player. Voting with their hearts instead of their heads

Interesting this Wanyama phenomena, isn't it. Before signing him, people didn't want him. Some did, of course, but largely the consensus was leaning towards having no need for him. Then he played, and some alluded to writing him off. Fast forward 'til now, and he has surprisingly the most MOTM votes. Now, he has been good, of course I'm delighted with him. But has he really been the best player on the pitch more times than any other player? I seriously question that. Anyway, the whole story from start to finish truly undermines the validity of mass consensus amongst fans.

The thing its not one person's opinion. The majority (who represent a wide cross section of society) voted that he has been either the best player or has been the most influential in the six games he has been made MOTM. How can you then turn around and question its validity? Remember this is only the views of Spurs Community members. Not official consensus, which I could argue would not be far off.

Of course, yes. I was probably more referring to the transfer window consensus, or what I perceived was close to a consensus, that we didn't need him.

I have to admit that I was underwhelmed with his signing, even said so in the transfer thread, but he has proved the doubters wrong and really added to the first team.

He hasn't always been my choice for MOTM, but I don't think it's unreasonable for him to have received so many votes.

I was definitely a doubter about Wanyama
I thought he was a very limited player
but he plays within his limitations, keeps it simple,
lets the creatives get on with it, works very hard
has calmed down somewhat and fits the team.
Pleased to vote for him as MOM several times.

Now come on Sissoko prove me wrong again.
