The exodus continues as Capoue and Stambouli head to Watford.

Selling Capoue is good even if it is at loss but selling Stambouli after just one season is ridiculous and pathetic. But I guess that's the kind of thing that happens when you've had no scouting network for 7 years and you buy players the coach doesn't want.

We all know we need to sell and get a smaller squad in order to buy.

Paulinho and Holtby were out of favour and we seem to have got a decent fee for them. Capoue is also massively out of favour and we appear to be recoupling most of the money we got for him.

Stambouli was a player I had some hopes for. A defensive mid who passed intellgently was a good fit for our needs. His interviews always showed a desire to improve and make a success of his time here.

But if he is deemed not good enough then fairwell, all the best.

I wonder if these sales are with the hopes of sealing a deal for an expensive player like Schneiderlin. Maybe Poch just thinks the young players like Bentaleb, Mason, Veljkovic are as good as those we're selling so no need to keep them.

we must be saving over 100K a week in wages with Paulinho, Capoue and Stambouli going...So we should have funds for a single high profile player in that position.

4 down. andros, ade, soldado, kaboul and chirices to go. if we clear all that lot and replace with 2 or 3 quality purchases to supplment our youth, will be very happy.

I'm hopeful that we'll see this type of in/out turnover of players a lot less often as Mitchell and his scouts will be looking at all aspects of the players including discipline and determination

Our three most immobile CM's gone, I think there's a message in there for whoever controls purchases...

Isn't it better this way? £26 million plus tons in wages freed up. The alternative as has always been was to play hard ball and waste the club's money and the players' careers.

Stambouli was never a fit for the PL. The guy just looked gassed in every game we played and while he provided a lot of good positioning and defensive awareness in midfield, he offered next to nothing going forward.

Still, I liked his personality and will remain a fan of his.

I have hoped all along this summer was going to be a case of more out than in. We've had a bloated squad for some time which often is suggested hampers is going after targets as we need to move players first.

If we sell Chiriches, Kaboul, Paulinho, Capoue, Stambouli, Holtby, Lennon, Dembele, Soldado and Ade. Then replace them with Trippier, Wimmer, a DM/CM, WF/CF and CF, given the fees recouped plus huge slashing of the wage bill, we can afford to go bigger on those last 3 players. Backfill the squad spaces created with the likes of Velkjovic, Winks, Ali, Onomah.

Kaboul - Wimmer
Chiriches - Velkjovic
Paulinho - New CM
Capoue - Carroll
Stambouli - Winks
Dembele - Pritchard
Holtby - Ali
Lennon - Onomah
Soldado - new WF/CF
Ade - New CF

I haven't included Trippier, but he was technically a replacement for Naughton as Walker's competition since Yedlin was purchased prior to selling Naughton.

Good bit of business financially, freshened up squad with players Pochettino can work with, clear path to 1st team for talented youngsters, which will have a knock on effect when we come to recruit other talented young players, we look like a club that will give them opportunities.

I think the goal was to trim the first team squad as you hinted at. I don't think all of those youngsters are going to stick around for first team action - I'm especially skeptical of Winks (loan) and Carroll (afraid they will lean towards a sale to Tim/Villa or some other). Onomah deserves a first team crack, but they might stick him out on loan as well, who knows.

The point is I think we will drop at least 2-3 from last years squad rotation numbers.

Is that after tax also where did you get those figures from.

As 225 said those were reported figures. We originally signed him on a free. Then later paid them £1.5m for him to be released early.

Agree with you but Mason and Bentaleb really don't offer much going forward either and Stambouli was a much better shield for the back 4 IMO.
