If we'd agreed a fee we wouldn't be allowing him to play I suspect.
Surely it would be their call more than ours unless they were desparate to sell which I doubt. They would just say sure we'll sell at that price but we're playing him in the Champions League qualifier first. The money they would get for qualifying on top of the transfer fee would be enough to keep them happy. We're hardly in position to demand he not play.

"Not an issue"? As in, they don't mind if he goes, or he's not going?

A Leverkusen spokesman basically said they didn't want to talk about the Son transfer as their focus was on the match tonight, which I assume is where the 'not an issue' thing has come from

And there you go. Nothing close anyway.

Weird the way it all broke from local media, normally when that happens it means a deal is getting advanced etc.

Our interest could well be genuine and strong, but you can't help but feel this was engineered to exert pressure on West Brom.
Did the German media specifically state he was having a medical in London? He very easily could have had part of his medical at a facility in Leverkusen.

Any chance this has been leaked from our end to remind WBA that Berahino isn't the only forward player we are looking at? (Yes it's a slow work day.)
My first thought as well, but he's not really a striker, is he?

Leverkusen fan from Reddit wrote that:

"Leverkusen season ticket holder here. Got ambivalent feelings about this. First of all, as mentioned by many in this thread, KStA is a source to take rather serious, they don't spread silly rumours. Additionally, Son was playing bad and missed the game against Hannover this Weekend due to a cold or something, make of that what you want. He's the kind of player that needs to be sent into space. He's got all the pace you could wish for and is absolutely fantastic at finishing at full speed, under pressing, 100% both footed, whatever you need. He consistently scores some amazing and important goals for us, which is why I'm very sceptical about him leaving. Brandt still has a long way to go in terms of consistency. Mehmedi looked good so far, but had some shaky finishing, which we have a big problem with anyways for two seasons now. I feel bad about letting a player go that just manages to get us goals. Additionally, if he goes, so does LG, our main sponsor. He's unbelievably popular in Korea, every single game you see dozens of koreans coming round and watching him. A word about why this isn't the end of the world though: While amazing at some things, he's utterly shit at other aspects of his game. Don't expect him to create many chances, he's absolutely not well versed as a playmaker and his decision making is shit, absolute shit. He hasn't really gotten any better at it in his time with us too, you still regularly see him running into three opposition players without really having the skill and/or creativity to beat them. Very frustrating. Also, as mentioned by others, he tends to play bad against bullying teams, which could really be a problem for him on a cold, rainy night in Stoke or however it goes"

He's going to fit right in then!!

Stages of a transfer:

1. Rumours of medical
2. Someone else says it's not happening
3. Panic, fire, brimstone, mocking
4. Transfer done.

I guess they could of denied it quickly and easily if they had wanted to though?

Yeah it was definitely stated somewhere that he was on a flight over

All I'm thinking is that we had a chance to net him for €10m two years ago and got shaded by BL's CL football berth, which Leverkusen are still pushing for this season.

How does a counter threat help us with bus parkers? I'm not saying he won't score goals, just that it's a sizeable fee and I've not seen enough of him to know what he generally does with the football when he's closed down.

Would like to hear from a regular watcher on this.

If we're really interested, it could be determined by the Berahino situation, or even Lamela's situation. May need other things to happen to continue.

In which case, we could have enquired just to find out if other things fall into/out of place, whether or not we should leave that iron in the fire.

It would explain news of our interest reaching the media, and also the confusion as to how far down the road it is.

Every single snippet that comes out between now and the deadline is due for the traditional in depth analysis, SC stylee, which usually involves state of the art CSI type techniques, hours of pondering and musing, squillions of kilojoules of energy spent scratching chins, more ooohing and ahhing than the busiest dogging hotspot in the land the end result of which is pretty much always the wrong conclusion being reached.

If ever any of you want to play Cluedo for money……….

That's what, a 1 1/2 hour flight?

3 hours round trip + travel to facilities and time between flights. Not much of a stretch to think he could get it done and still play this afternoon.

Wouldn't it be lovely to hear the Park Lane, united as one in chorus, singing:

"Little darling. It's been a long, cold lonely winter..."

No? Bloody sod you.

I wouldnt be surprised if it was the case but it also wouldnt work at all. Anyone worth their salt can see we desperately need another striker. Son is not a striker.

Let's see, if he's in the squad at 6.45pm then we know this is a way off. If he's not, he's almost certainly being sold to someone. I would be surprised at a player missing a game of this importance. They are 2 - 0 up, but still...

I was wondering that myself, seems a little farfetched though to be honest unfortunately, if they're willing to let him go for a medical on the day of a game then they're probably resigned to losing him, so would they want him in the squad?

Seems like news outlets have jumped the gun. I'm guessing we have met his release fee (if he has one), now the job is about convincing him to sign for us. Still a long way to go if even remotely true.
