There's so much of your post I do agree with 100%, because it's pretty much what fans like you and I think, Poch has been amazing for us but what do the players feel?

Players careers are fairly short and so medals are crucial to keep as momento's and for their memories to remain real after they stop playing. How many times have we heard of players wanting to move clubs because they want to win trophies?

For us, winning a trophy is a lovely day out, celebrating a victory, all together as a club. But then, for us, it's done and we move on.

If only fans got medals for devoting their lives to the clubs they love, eh?

.

Then maybe those players should put in a bit more effort in the semis and finals we have got to over the last 5 years. At the end of the day they are the ones that can win it.

Poch has publicly put the challenge to the players this season, not just behind the scenes. Step up from 2 finals, 3 semis and a 2nd place in the league and we will have had more than a good season.

No arguments there. At the end of the day, it's always down to the players (assuming the best players for the games have been selected in the first place).

If we need to win trophies poch, then take all competitions seriously you nugget

Since he's been here only in his first season have we not got to at least the semi final in a domestic cup. He takes it seriously. They are just not the priority.

I'm firmly in the 'domestic cups are inferior' camp however I do feel we need to try and pick one up within the next 2 years. Poch and the players need to (and deserve to) feel that tangible success.

Top 4, league and CL challenges have been the absolute key to our growth and success, much more than a domestic cup would have done, but right now feels like the time for us to give the cups a real go (helped by arguably our deepest ever squad) and touch the glory.

For the first time we now have the squad to compete in all competitions so I reckon you'll see us giving it a real go.

I think our past methods have been sensible.

Play a few young players and squad players in the early rounds then go strong in the later rounds.

We have done well in the cups, just haven’t gone the extra and won one.

But this isn’t due to not taking them seriously.

Our priority since ENIC took over has been to create a platform both on and off the pitch, to regularly compete with the best clubs domestically and in European competition. This includes qualifying season after season for the Champions League, or at the very least the Europa League.

Spurs have never been able to do this in the past and despite having very good teams over the years, we've never been particularly consistent with our league finishes. Sustained periods of success (i.e. consecutive Top 6 finishes) is something we've always struggled with.

Added to this, our stadium, training facilities and commercial revenue also needed a boost so we could compete with the 'elite' clubs of world football.

It was a little frustrating listening to pundits (and fans) berating us for not winning anything, while at the same time we were slowly building as a club; sustainable building, which in most other environments or industries would be lauded.

Anyway, I think we've pretty much arrived now at a point where our infrastructure and squad can compete with the best in Europe. We've also finished in the Top 6 ten seasons in a row now and added to that we've qualified for the Champions League four seasons in a row.

This means that silverware should now be a priority, although obviously that doesn't mean that we weren't trying to win competitions in previous years.

But perhaps it means we should feel disappointed if we don't win at least one trophy a season, going forward.

My opinion on this remains the same as it has done for a good few years. It's not about winning any old trophy, it's about winning the trophies that matter.

If Spurs win the FA Cup or the League Cup this season it won't change this same old boring line from the media/pundits that Poch hasn't done anything of note with Spurs until he's won a trophy. It will simply alter it slightly. You can bet your bottom dollar that as soon as any Spurs fan says, well we've won a trophy now, the response will be - "yeah but it was only the league cup/FA cup. When is Poch gonna win the league or Champions league. Only then can he be considered a great coach".

Don't get me wrong, I would obviously be happy for us to win a domestic trophy, but not at the expense of our league or CL form. The only two compeitions that really matter in football are those two. The FA Cup was great once upon a time but it's lost it's prestige IMO. The league cup is an even lesser competition.

I don't care what rival fans or pundits say, nor what the history books say. When I'm old and grey I will be able to look back on this 5 year period (at least) and say it was one of the best times to be a Spurs fan. If I'm asked about what it was like when Pochettino managed Tottenham, I will be able to talk about it in glowing terms and say that we were one of the best sides in the country and in Europe. I can't say that about Spurs in the 90's or early noughties and we won trophies in those periods.

I am old and grey and I remember watching the teams of the early 80's that won things !! and nothing compares to that ! the game is about glory and glory is winning and winning with style !! I remember the teams of hoddle, ardiles, villa etc right up to Gazza and lineker and the dross that came after until Joll started the era that meant we won a trophy (even though he wasn't here by then :( )

Nobody will ever talk about nearly teams ( no one ever mentions leeds now or Middlesborough or even for that matter Newcastle all teams that until quite recently qualified for europe and punched above their station !) , the reason we have such a high fan base even through the dross is past glory !!

We need to bring that glory back, for what its worth I think Poch will do that if supported by levy and co the whole way.

Didn't we get to the League Cup final in his first season?

I agree with you though.

Well it's not like the lads have won nothing last season... they have Champions League silver medals. IMO it's bigger than any domestic cup winners trophy.
