I see Poch has said we must win some silverware if this season is to be considered a success. Is he forgetting last pre-season when we ran out International Champions Cup winners, beating all of Europe's so-called finest, and a few weeks ago, we beat Real Madrid (again) and Bayern to lift the glorious Audi Cup...? ;)

COYS!!!! TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!

He's right. We do need to win silverware. I don't think we can say just finishing top 4 is now a success. We have to aim our sights higher.

Personally I will be quite disappointed if we don't win a trophy this season and would look at it as a failure. The players and Poch will look at it exactly the same way.

He's right.
For me, this is now ground zero where we start to kick on as everything is finally in place.
We are no longer the plucky underdog but can compete equally financially, and in terms of players as well as facities.
Psychologically, we need any sort of trophy to put down a marker and really bring that winning mentality to the club.

The first chapter is over. Now the stadium is in place, we must be looking at seriously challenging for AND winning trophies. Today marks the start of the second project.

This whole subject is lame!
We are a football club and they all try to win things!
Do we really have to keep stating the bloody obvious?

With respect Steve, you don't have to join in the discussion/subject about it if it annoys you mate.

Baffling having read Poch's comments. I've always felt he underplayed the CC & FA cup.. Challenging for those trophies just brings that winning culture and composure in the bigger tournaments.

But yeah we seriously need to start winning trophies.. Baby steps and all that.

I think we will. Although we lost the CL final, we should not under estimate what winning both legs against Dortmund in the final 16, then our performance in those two quarter ties against City, then that coming back from a two goal deficit away at Ajax to go through to the finals should contribute to our winning psyche

Given that Poch is now seeing this as the next five year project he will want us to win trophies. The foundations and everything else has been built.

To be fair, my opening post was rather tongue-in-cheek and was a response to all the pundits saying the same thing now, that we must win a trophy. I've heard it and heard it and heard it a thousand times over and it's beginning to do my head in. OF COURSE we want to win silverware, we are one of the top football clubs in the biggest and best football league in the world. The fans want it, the club wants it and the players all want it too but it's not simply a question of plucking apples off a tree. There are other clubs who want it just as much too. Clubs far better resourced, clubs who only lose literally, a few games a season and with far greater 'spenditure'.

Please God, let this be our year. As a club, we're doing the best we can now and every trophy win has a lot of luck attached, so please God, let this be our turn and let's shut all those pundits up once and for all.

I think that it's partly because of the clubs that we are competing with, we are the only ones yet to win a trophy in recent seasons.

IMO there is a problem with the Pochettino Spurs and it is the lack of the 'grit' or whatever you want to call it.
A good example was the CL final, we just lacked umpf! Which wasn't the case in the quarters and semi-finals...which is puzzling.

That was just a really strange final. Yeah, that handball decision didn't help but you're right - we need to have that burning desire to get over the finish line.

I trust in Poch, really I do, but he's as human as the rest of us and he makes mistakes. I have to admit, sometimes he makes wrong team selections which, with 20/20 hindsight Harry should not have been given the nod over Lucas. He may have been fit as the preverbial fiddle, but he was clearly not 'match-fit' having missed 7 or 8 weeks out injured. Lucas was on a high after having scored one of the greatest hat-tricks in our history, and was dropped because Harry declared himself ready to play.

Nothing against Harry for that. I have a serious hetero-man-love for the guy...I mean which player would ever admit they weren't ready for a game like that, but as things turned out, it was the wrong call the boss made and it affected us.

Ah well, they say you learn the best lessons from your worst defeats...

Hopefully it’ll be like buses and we’ll end up winning 5 trophies in the next 5 years. Would be nice to get some really nice domestic cup draws where we can comfortably play reserve players and get to the later stages.

We wanted to be a big club and we've got most of the pieces in place to define ourselves as such now, so we should set our expectations in line with being a big club. Big clubs view it as a failure if they go through a season without winning any silverware, so that's what we should have as the standard now.

It's great to be at the grown-ups table at last, but with our improvement in quality and standing comes more demanding expectations, and we need to meet those standards if this is the level we aspire to be at.
