There were rumours of us stealing him for the peanuts price of £3m back in late August, those rumours obviously didn't come to fruition. Should we have re-signed Berbatov though?

At the time I though "fuck off he's a miserable fuck that was horrible and sodded off". That could still be the case. However with the shower of shite we currently have up front, there's no doubt that Berba would have been a perfect addition talent wise.

The question is was his talent worth having back the player that left in such bad circumstances. As the weeks go on I'm inclined to say yes, as I believe we are a quality striker away from a title challenge on this year's table. Would I rather like my players and finish 5th or think they're ****s and be above Arsenal? Probably the latter.

He cheated on me but damn he's still sexy

I'd have him back in a flash

Pure class. All's forgiven!

Yes.

I never had bad feelings towards him to be honest, he did well for us but we doubled our money on him. We always knew he wouldn't stick around, he was classy before he came people were just unsure if he could fit the English game, we took the risk and got double our money for doing so.

I think we should have given him a chance and got him back because he would have certainly given us more options and I'm sure he'd love Bale and Lennon feeding him.

He scored today, ergo yes.

If he hadn't scored then no.

Seriously though he messed us about at a critical time which was practically unforgivable, therefore it needed lots of time to even begin to heal the wounds. However I think it's got to the stage where many would have accepted him* including myself. But alas it wasn't to be (at the time I thought we would have been ok without him). However looking back obviously we should have done that little bit more to get him, but how was anyone to know that both Ade and Defoe would be on this form? There was no way (and rightly so) DL would have entertained having three strikers in their later years when there was realistically only one place on offer.

*I think he understands this as when he scored against us it was the first time in my memory that he refused to celebrate - bit late though

No Brainer to have signed him

I can only hope the decision was not ours, I hope either he did not want to play for us again or that Sir Alex did not want to sell him to us

Because if indeed he was an option for us and we decided instead to sign Clint Dempsey then I lose all confidence in the footballing know how of whoevers call it was

He's a fantastic player and even if he is slightly passed his best he would have been amazing in our team right now, we'd be clear in second

It's really a no brainer. We were idiots not to re-sign him.

Admittedly the way he left wasn't great, but nowadays most players are mercenaries and loyalty is no longer an intrinsic part of the game. However, while he was here, he epitomised the values of the club, playing with style and finesse, and producing some magical football moments.

2 seasons ago at Manchester United he was the top scorer in the entire league, even though his starts were somewhat limited. They let him go because of his work rate, but he didn't get any worse as a player. He's now hit 15 goals and has 3 assists this season, and we all know what he contributes in other areas.

If we miss out on Champions League, not signing Berbatov in the summer, (IF we had the opportunity to do so) might be the biggest reason why.

When Teddy came back he just slotted back in so Berba would have been the same.
It wasn't like he shafted us Campbell style we actually trebled our money on him.

Berbs seriously fell out with Levy when left.

Not sure he'd have him back

Exactly.

All these threads about getting Modric and Berbs back are nice, but the fact of the matter is simple:

Fuck with Levy, the bridge is burned.

Forever.

Said as much before he went to Fulham. Instead we got Dempsey which hilariously cost us more...

I make you right. There was mucho consternation when it was previously suggested. I think if a player gets caught so much as flicking a bogey out of his car window, SC's resident lentil munchers 'don't want that sort at my club'

For me his misdemeanors weren't unforgiveable. Wouldn't go as far as to say I'd welcome him back with open arms but the door wasn't closed forever for me.

We bought a striker who scored 18 goals for us last season, setup numerous goals and linked up well with our players. We got him on a cut-price deal with City paying a large chunk of his wages. Not sure many were complaining at his signing at the time though many were unhappy with how long it took for him to sign.

We made the wrong call but it was an understandable call especially as we don't know if Berbatov was genuinely available to us.
