Would he be shouting it from the rooftops if Dier hadn't had such a good start?

Also while you were at the club we didn't bring him in did we Timmy, but don't let this fact overshadow your achievement here.

Even if its true, to proclaim it in your newspaper column really lacks class.

Also for Levy to allow this man to have his ear and influence decisions in our club for so long make me question Levy's judge of character.

Eric has been playing for England Under 21's and everybody knew who he was. Poch made the decision to buy him and is reaping the rewatrd. Sherwood, like the rest, did not and is, as per usual, trying to gain some reflected glory and big himself up.

Sherwood actually credits Ramsey with pressing the hierarchy to sign Dier but don't let your prejudice stand in the way of that.

I don't see the problem. We probably didn't need a RB with walker in good form and Naughty as a fair backup.

The difference will have been the fee and the timing.

Shoulda said it when he signed, not after the good start. Makes me a little cynical but Sherwood has to write something if he's employed to do an article every week.

He gets the benefit of the doubt from me so long as he doesn't try to take credit for Lamella and Capoues form/fitness.....

Sherwood watched him in an England U4s game in 1998 when Dier and knew back then he was going to be special.

Just like when he watched Eriksen at Wembley when he was 17, despite Eriksen never having played at Wembley by his own admission.

Harry and Tim actually seem to have slightly different recollections on that one. Tim says he is uncertain why we did not try to sign Suarez while Harry has pointed to Tim and Les's scouting report.

But Redknapp has an aversion to signing bad boys so I am not sure it was ever on the cards.

The main thrust of the Independent article was Tim saying what a good job Poch is doing, but of course that does not play to anyone's agenda. So instead his comment on Dier is latched onto as Tim claiming credit now he has come good (even if he does give the credit to Ramsey).

Dier was bought primary as a CB and not as RB (similar case as Jan).

TIm was part of the transfer decision committee for a few years and, after having even had Dier for trial and liked what they saw, I am surprised it was not before until after Tim had left that Spurs bought Dier. And if Ramsey spoke so warmly about Dier why didn't Tim push for his purchase?
Fortunately, Everton were also dragging their feet regarding Dier.
I do wish Ramsey had stayed though, and I also give credit to Tim for "pushing" Bentaleb into the 1st team.
PS! Thus said, Dier is still young and will have his ups and downs.

“I like the look of Eric Dier, who was a player that we had picked out for some time as a potential future signing during my time at the club,” Sherwood wrote in his column for the Independent.

“He is a versatile footballer who is comfortable on the ball. He came in to the training ground when Harry Redknapp was manager and trained with us for a few days. In the end he went to Everton on loan but we liked what we saw and kept tabs on him.

“When Chris Ramsey came back from his stint with the England Under-20s last year he said that Eric was one we should look at bringing in. I am glad that the club pushed ahead and signed him. Given time and the right conditions I hope that he could be an England international one day. Hopefully, he will be part of a wider group of England internationals who got their Premier League chance at Spurs.”
