I Dont often post on here, mostly due to the fact that someone has already posted something along the lines of what i was gonna say. But i thought i would start a thread talking about the season so far.
Well i Could some it up in a word, Disappointing. But i will elaborate a bit more. With the start of the season just about to happen i was highly confident, certainly of another top 5 finish, but maybe push one of the others to enter the top 4. Like many i was disappointed in not improving our midfield, but like most were saying at the start of the season, was wondering why we hadn't sorted out our left wing. As at the time it wasn't evidently clear that Bale would play there. Certainly not from the outset. I Thought probably like most at the time, that our centre midfield was maybe a little weak, but had potential with good coaching to improve, we certainly wasn't lacking goals, and if they supported our defence a bit more it shouldn't be an issue. The Purchase of Darren Bent seemed a bit of a waste of money, especially since i didn't think he added much more to the team. But was excited about Kaboul, and Bale, and looking to the future for Boateng, taarabt, and Rose.
But now fast forwarding to 11 games into the season we find ourselves in the mess we are in now, why some on this forum say we are in a relegation battle baffles me, yes we are in the zone, but we really are too good to go down. And i know leeds said that but they had much more problems. Some of our performances have been ok, and i feel some of you on here are way to critical. I know its hard not to be when your upset to see the club so low in the table but we will see the other side. We have had plenty of bad luck, yesterdays visitors blackburn, just one of them who didnt out play us but got the win. Sunderland another. We played great until near the end against fulham, we could have scored about 8 that game. We was good against Man United. ok against arsenal and liverpool. Though hugely disappointing against Everton, Newcastle and Getafe. (though we lost to Everton at home last year, and newcastle home and away)
A few wins soon and we will goto Mid table and Confidence will rise. Though i do think our only chance of qualifying for Europe is winning the UEFA Cup, Something we could have done last year, but due to better teams being in it this year i dont think we can. Likewise teams in the premiership are better, Man City, Everton, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Newcastle and West ham have all upped there game, and it would be hard to make up the points we have lost to them, even when they do have inevitable dips in form.
In my Opinion the board only made one mistake, and thats getting caught by the media in spain trying to get ramos in August. Dont get me wrong i loved Jol, he got us much further towards where i wanted us to be, but i dont think he could take us further, and so they had the right ideas of bringing us the missing link. a decent coaching team. As the tactics Jol used was often lacking in killer instinct and after two seasons of it, we became obvious to the opposition. And as for training, i really think something was going wrong there, the players arnt fit enough to last 90 minutes, and we still have defensive frailties. Just those two things fixed alone as well as player coming back from injury and i think we will challenge well again.
Anyway i think i have ranted on for long enough now, my brain is starting to get all confused. but im looking forward to Ramos helping our team improve, and bringing us forward like we all deserve.
