I love it when people say this and then say we should still get £80 million for Eriksen under the same exact circumstances...

Not same exact circumstances though - one is a promising young player with potential the other is the main creative driving force of our team has proven himself in 2 leagues and is the star player for his country and is heading into his prime.

Let's see. Eriksen has proven himself one of the world's best attacking midfielders in the toughest league in the world, racking up a huge number of assists and plenty of goals over several years for a top team. Also proven as a full international.

Sessegnon has had one season in the PL and showed glimpses of his undoubted talent but also was rather out of his depth, and has an awful lot to learn.

Yeah, I imagine @WalkerboyUK mentions are looking intense right now :ROFLMAO:

Now, I will say, if we decide to tell Madrid that they would need offer us the same amount they paid for Eden Hazard to get Eriksen, it would be quite silly. Especially if they tell Eriksen to wait till January and have him for way less.

As said above, if Sessegnon is 45, we best get at least 80 for Eriksen. One just played in a champions league final having been one of the best assisters in Europe for the past 3 years and who is a crucial player for his club and country. The other got relegated at first attempt at premier league while looking bang average

That's not the only criteria for valuation though is it? Eriksen is not going to get better. He has many fewer years ahead of him potentially at a high level. Sessegnon is very young and so his potential has to be factored in. Of course, one has to factor in the certainty factor as well. You know what you're getting with Eriksen but while Sessegnon has a higher ceiling perhaps, he also has a much higher bust possibility. That said, any valuation based on a current, static performance level is just plain silly.

Bit like Andy Robertson and Harry Maguire, then

Eriksen is not going to get better?! He’s just turned 27, has the world at his feet. I know we were obsessed with youngsters but 27 is not old

Sessegnon might do well, might not. Total punt.

Rewind to 2008: John Bostock or Franck Ribery? You know what you’re gonna get with Ribery after all...

The difference is that with a world class player you pay because you need what he can bring to the team immediately. If PSG or Real is about to pay £80m for Eriksen, it's because they seen a return on that investment in 18/19.

For a development player you spend money to be first in line. Fulham risk scaring off buyers who are content to wait another year for him.

We all see Sess as a third choice attacker and possibly a second choice LB. We don't have to have him 19/20.

No, I don't believe he will get better. Unless he gets faster, learns to dribble better, or gets a lot more aggressive on defense, he has reached his personal ceiling. He might perform better in a different system or with other players around him, but he's not going to considerably improve his abilities at the age of 27. Most players are peaking at his age when they've had substantial playing time.

Get it done. It's going to be 25M plus either more money now or add-ons that are tied to future re-sale. Either way, it'd be good to just tie this up and be looking onwards again after the cup final loss and uncertainty around some of our own players (and manager). This guy is worth a punt, and won't be available to us if he breaks through.

Anybody seen much of him? The bits and pieces I've seen he has a nice left foot and good pace but not great defensively. My own view is he won't be used at LB

Yep. Obviously we don’t want to pay too much for him but I don’t want to see us dilly dally again with a transfer like this that should be relatively easy to do for us to lose out in one way or another (see Barkley and Grealish).
