Apparently he underwent emergency surgery for bleeding on the brain due to a fractured skull caused in a collision with Gary "the new donkey" Cahill

The replays were hard to watch. He went down like a felled tree.
Thank God he's getting better.

What a tragedy. Thoughts & prayers go out to Ryan & his family. Such a quality player: I will never forget his goal against Sunderland a couple of seasons ago, where he sacrificed his body so that Spurs could earn 3 points on the road. Say it all about him. Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

Apparently he is feeling much better and is looking forward to playing against Wycombe on Saturday.

God bless you fella.
Firstly let's hope he makes a complete recovery, and secondly , docs allowing, he can return to his football.

I suspect, like Petr Cech he will probably wear some sort of protective head gear.

I always though that original Cech injury took something away from him as a player (understandably).

We were talking about this today. If he was to be passed fit to play, an outfield player wearing protective head gear is completely different to that of a goalie.

A goalie stands a bit of a risk getting a knock in the head but for an outfield player with numerous headers , surely the risk is just to high?

The important thing is it looks like he's going to be OK. As for when he can head a ball again I suspect that's not going to happen soon if at all, it'll depend on how bad the fracture is and where exactly on his skull it is; my hunch is most doctors will say don't head a ball again just to be safe. I always liked Mason, sad if his career ends like this but if he is forced to retire in good health that's not a bad outcome from the moment he fractured his skull. I hope he's well insured.

If he was a boxer he would almost certainly have to retire, I think with football it's no different.
