I'm pretty confident he's coming, he'll improve our squad and we'll get him for a decent price. He wants to come and we are happy to have him so no need to worry.

My guess £18m with add ons and around £75k/week. For a 23 yo England international in today's market that is an absolute steal.

Not bothered when he comes as tbh he wouldn't be first choice anyway, in fact, no signing will be unless we pay above £50m which we're not going to do. So people need to chill and remember that our first team are top notch and any improvement to the squad has bigger effects later in the season rather than the first 2 and half weeks.

You think they'll go down from £50m to £18m?

They are never going to get £50m for a player with only one year left on his contract. They risk getting far less if they don't sell this year.
We will not be getting him for £18m, I'll have an even £100 that it will be more than that, in fact I think it will be £25m plus.

Mate, genuinely, who do you think negotiates these transfers and ultimately signs the cheques: Poch or Levy?[/QUOTE

I wouldn't really know how these deals happen. No doubt MP would have spoken with Mr Levy and told him those he would be interested in to add to his squad. He more than likely also said who was no longer part of his plans and should go. Outside of that, I would be surprised if MP takes part in any negotiations. I think somewhere within the administration running the club there is someone who will be doing the initial negotiations with the players agent also involved. At all times those involved will be reporting back to Mr Levy and also keeping MP in the loop. At sometime there may well be a stand off situation where agreement can't be reached. If one side is adamant it won't move and that is probably the end of it. If there appears to be room for negotiation, then Mr Levy may become involved with his counterpart. At sometime the players involved will be informed as to what goes in the contract and his agreement sought. All in all, I suspect many transfers will have complications with few, if any, being straight forward.

One thing that seems apparent to me is that playing ones cards close to one's chest is vital. After all is said and done, it is still a simple business deal with both parties looking for the best deal. Caught in the middle is the unfortunate player also wanting something that he actually wants as well. We the fans, of course, have no say and are often the last to know and always with no explanation.

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head and with no certainty of being anywhere near the truth.

Guaranteed that if he doesn't get sold, he will sign a new contract at Everton a few days after the transfer window closes.

Everton are not in the weak position a lot seem to think. Being a home grown player, means anything they get for him will be a bonus, IMO.

Similar to the Berahino debacle, if you ask me.

Did Berahino ever sign a new deal after the saga with us?

The problem Everton have is that Koeman basically said sign a deal or go, he doesn't appear to be in the managers plans anymore and they've just signed Rooney who will play in Barkley's position.

Right now is the time when Poch can really focus on individual players and getting them up to speed in terms of their role and his wants from them in terms of teamwork. Yes this can and would happen during the season but with travelling, games, preparation for games, stuff relating to previous games etc there's a lot less time. Someone like Barkley desperately needed these weeks to have enough of an impact in my opinion.

I just can't see there being a chance in hell Levy will pay £30m for a player who not only will have just 9 months left on his contract but also has just had an operation, won't have had any pre season or game time since May, won't have played a single minute of even friendly games. I really think unless Everton lower price massively this deal is dead and Barkley will be forced to sign new contract as otherwise he won't play for a year.

I understand the arguments why he should be cheaper, but ultimately:
- we need AMS
- I don't see a queue of high quality alternatives at anything like that value
- Barkley is actually a pretty good player who's still young

We really need him IMO

There was nothing sensible about your previous post though really was there. You tried to have a dig at posters that might be frustrated with Levy by grossly exaggerating things in an attempt to belittle anyone that might question the bald messiah.

The reality is that 99% of our fanbase (BSoDL or Not) would be delighted with just one, maybe 2 quality additions. Not much to ask I dont think.

Totally agree. By not adding 1 or 2 quality players on top of the team that finished second is in my book a failure push on. We of course have our suspicions why but none of us can be 100%. When we get told that the stadium budget is separate from the player acquisition budget we as fans naturally question the stance of the club.
As I've stated before we could luck out and finish second or first as we have a settled team or we could fall so far behind the top 4 places due to staying static this transfer window, which could start a really bad chain of events with the team and manager leading into our new stadium.
It's crunch time for our chairman, its the closest we have been to potentially winning the league or being stripped of our assets as we have failed to stay in the top 4.
Barkley would certainly strengthen our squad but h is not enough IMO.

I fully agree with the first part, but I actually do think we will still sign him. You don't avoid signing a player on a five year deal because he's out for 4 weeks. Now it screws us and the player over in terms of preparation and the start of the season but let's be honest, our transfer history suggests we don't particularly care about either when there's money to be saved...

Might end up like Berahino... another player destroyed by Levy vs other club. Hope this don't turn into another bad story else no player would want to deal with Levy again.

Huh?

How was that Levy's fault, he offered 20+ mill for Berahino.

You say that but this gets said every year and when we make those signings people still moan.

Either because they didn't want that specific player or because some other team signed someone and now they're going to be brilliant. I remember when everyone though Crystal Palace were going to out do us. Plus the yearly over-rating of Liverpool.

This line about crunch time for levy etc really holds no water does it because this is his MO, and whether we like it or not he will not change what he perceives as the way to do business.
Yes it's fucking frustrating with him pudding about for what looks like the sake of it, but I'm sure he is savvy to know that the club has to bring in new signings.
If in the unlikely event that he fucks up and we miss out on targets then yeah go for it, in the meantime buckle up and enjoy the ride.

If only we could do swap'sies with Sissoko (who Everton wanted for £30m last summer).

Sissoko had a deal in place with Everton last summer, only to stop answering his phone when we came into the picture. Wonder if they even had a helicopter waiting for him which he didn't turn up for.

So I'd think that he's burned his bridges there.
